A.I.R. Check Valves keep failing
My AIR check valves keep rusting out inside and plugging up (SES light code #P1416). No, I can't rip out my SMOG equipment, I'm in California.
This is a 2002 camaro SS, LS1, daily driver 20mile commute to work each way, not really any super short trips except maybe 10-15 1/4mile passes each year for fun
Any ideas what is causing this? This is the second time it has happened. It seems to last about 3 years then I get the SES light. Last time was in 2005.
Thanks for any ideas

I had to change mine on the passenger side a few years ago, wasn't rusted though, just clogged with carbon deposits.
stefan256 - take the pipe off the manifold (2 bolts) and put it in a vice to unscrew the valve. You should be able to re-use the gasket, and if not they're only a couple bucks for a pkg of 6 at the dealership.

i had to replace mine because of the carbon buildup in it was cutting its airflow in half creating a huge amount of pressure when you accelerated quickly. It does'nt appear to have been changed and at 99k miles it seems like it shouldnt be that big of a deal i think it was $6 i replaced it and the car is running alot quieter now =) best of all not smelling exhaust fumes anymore.
