As much as I didn't want to do this, it seems like I don't have a choice. almost two weeks ago I purchased a used g5-X2 cam from Santana Delgado aka txh0tb0i972. I even sent him 100 dollars before the cam was out of the car as a good faith payment and sent him the other 200 as soon as he showed me pictures of it out. Which, he did. Santana was very on-point with responding to my PM's and spoke to me several times via AIM. When I recieved the cam, it was packaged pretty well wrapped in bubble wrap and encased in a thick cardboard tube. However, when I opened it up, the cam did not look as good as it had in his pictures, in fact, his pictures did not show ANY of the damage that you are about to see.

I sent Santana a PM thanking him for the prompt shipping but (being very apologetic) told him i was going to need a refund because the cam was damaged and as you can see, not something that could have been done via shipping. He responded a few times and I wont air out all of what he said just yet but lets just say he told me he had already spent my money on a new cam for his car and he wouldnt be able to reimburse me till this week. I was going to give him till friday (tomorrow) as i told him via PMs but he stopped responding to my PMs (since last thursday) and I have yet to recieve a phone call back (ive called numerous times). I have also seen him logged on to this forum several times since last thursday, so that leaves me to believe he is just ignoring my PM's. After researching him here on the forums many of you seem to know him and have a high opinion of him, so I have held off of reporting him to paypal, and I have not given him any negative feedback for his trader rating here (which is 15 @ 100% positive). But please, if you can help me get my money back. Missing that 300 dollars has delayed ALOT of plans for my vehicle. I may not be a regular here on ls1tech, because I mainly stay over on corvetteforum. so please, please please, if you know Santana, or have a way to get ahold of him. please direct him here. If my money has not been returned by the end of tomorrow (friday the 14th) and I have not heard from Santana, I will be filing a dispute with paypal. thanks for reading, and again, my apologies to you santana when your read this, i tried not to take our dealings public but you have ignored me.

Last time I saw that cam nothing was wrong with it.....

I totally hear you on that. Santana said the same thing. but if this damage had been caused by shipping, there would have been SOME kind of debris in the packaging. SOMETHING. the packaging looked perfect. even the cardboard tube wasnt even dinged. Ive also asked both professionals AND forum members over at corvette forum if there was ANY way possible it happend during shipping, and it was a unanimous no. I will be happy to link that thread here if you would like to see it.

Post the number on the back of the cam tiki. Prove that it is what its supposed to be. Take pics of the number. If you sent a cam with no damage then there is no way in hell it was damaged in shipping. That looks like lobe pitting.

That pitting is not shipping damage, when i pulle dout one of my old cams it had the same exact thing..

No, he didnt. he claims to have have overlooked them. at any rate, there is a resolution pending. I will keep this thread updated.

tiki240
03-13-2008, 10:13 PM
the pitting is typically caused by two things according to my research. 1. a manufacturer default and 2. improper spring pressure

im not saying anything to anyone. just saying if you know oyu sent the cam out and it didnt look like that the buyer could be taking pictures of his old cam that he pulled out of his car so he can get a free cam out of the deal. join date of febuary 2008 with 3 posts? could be someone creating a new account to rip you a new one

thats what i thought but i broke a valve spring a while back ...... then its the cylinder on the driver side 3rd one.... from the front of the car...then they called me a while ago to say it was cylinders 5 and 6 that couldve messed up! if im correct!

chrysler kid, there are many members of corvetteforum.com that know me personally and can vouch. I only joined ls1tech to buy santanas cam.

Mike96z
03-13-2008, 10:43 PM
that cam is tore up and that damage isnt from shipping, sorry but i pulled a cam out of my LT1 awhile back and looked just like that. it was a CC306, that cam would eat up your lifters. and if he put a new cam and used the same ole lifters, that new cam is gonna look identical in a matter of months with some hard running on the engine. I heard a machine shop can fix cams like that but never did it nor do I think its feasable unless its like a super expensive, hard to find cam. you payed $300 for that? yes its either caused by defect or over tightening the vales, problem 2 is most likely.

txh0tb0i972
03-13-2008, 10:47 PM
thats what im going to do take it to get repaired! its 30 bucks! or so~! and im getting some ls7 lifters...

Mike96z
03-13-2008, 10:55 PM
yea, id get some bearings in that thing too lol. also instead of LS7 lifters, get the LS7 version from the Cadillac race car, they are a bit different, lightweight internals, proven to 7k rpm+.

sorry i never ment to judge your character but if he couldnt see that damage he must have been blind or figured you were. seeing as how it looks like he is gonna refund you the money i guess its the latter

yeah at the beginning of this thread and saw the user name, i was like whoaaa what the fuck. that doesnt sound like santana at all, and i know hes not stupid enough to fuck someone over on here as he goes to all the meets, and buys and sells parts to A LOT of people on here. doing that would def make him lose all credibility on the forum and at car functions.

glad it all worked out.

I hope he refunds your money. I am not sure if Santana is aware of it, but if he is the original purchaser of that cam he may be able to get some money back from LG or Comp as that is definitely a manufacturing issue. Futral F13's had similar problems a while back. That shouldn't be your problem and he should refund your money, but once he does and he gets the cam back it shouldn't be his problem either. Fortunately for him, he swapped it out before it had a chance to do any damage to his car. Fortunately for you, it was never installed in your car.

Good luck on the refund, that cam is basically a paper weight.

I hope this gets resolved.

If you do a search on the Futral F13's I think you will see similar lobes when they went through a bad batch a cams a couple of years ago. That shouldn't be your problem and he should refund your money, but once he does and he gets the cam back it shouldn't be his problem either if he bought it new. Fortunately for him, he swapped it out before it had a chance to do any serious damage to his car. Fortunately for you, it was never installed in your car.

Good luck on the refund, that cam is basically a paper weight in my opinion and this should be taken up with the manufacturer.

That is an unbelievable statement. That is very clearly a wear issue and possibly bad cam right from the start. There is no way in hell that is shipping damage and you know it.

IMO, someone who is technically inclined could not have overlooked that. Your response is shameful.

You are very clearly a seller to be avoided.

**EDIT** Has this been resolved? If so, I will retract the last statement.
