Default Finished my motor! Pics Inside!!!!!

Well it has been the first time that I've had hands on experience building a motor. With all the luck that I have had with motors, I figured with help of someone experienced I could at least help with certain parts of the assembly process. I ended up taking my stock shortblock to Davis Auto Parts in Cave City, Kentucky. I have known Chuck for a while and he's built a couple other member's motors on here. Anything that I did, he stood over me and watched me and everything I did. I have a complete build with clearances and parts. Here's a breakdown of what the motor consists of.

ARP Main Studs, Rod Bolts, and Head Bolts
KYTP 232/240 .580"/.580" 110 LSA+2
TFS 215cc "As-Cast" Heads
Yella Terra Ultra-Lite Roller Rockers
Morel Hydraulic Lifters
3.905" Mahle -4cc Pistons File-Fit Rings
6.125" Eagle Rods
Stock Crank turned .010"
Cleavite Main and Rod Bearings
Durabond Cam Bearings
Melling High Volume Oil Pump (Was a PITA to get this to clear the timing cover with a double roller timing chain)
PBM Adjustable Double Roller Timing Chain
Stock Graphite Head Gaskets

The rest of the setup will be...
FAST 90mm Intake/Throttle Body
Kooks 1 7/8" Stainless Headers
3" Duals and X-Pipe (ala Red91z)
TCI 4000 Stall

Very nice build up. I would like to see some dyno numbers on that beast.

I will have dyno numbers and track numbers in due time. I plan on enjoying the car for a while though before I have either one. I have had a string of bad luck with 408's starting with APE and then FFHP and then a fluke with a mechanical failure with another sponsor. After breaking in the motor I will go to some car shows and cruise ins and then after a month or two I'll dyno it and take it to the track.

Congrats Bro. I know you have struggled to get everything on the Z28 back in line and it's due time you had that car running again. Now I have to finish my heap.

Sounds like a solid plan. I had a string of bad luck like that with my last car. Went thru 3 motors then decided to call it quits & get the Trans Am. So far this LS1 car has been good to me. Not a single issue thru any of my installs & not a single mechanical failure I didn't cause, LOL.

Your motor looks sick though. I agree, I'd do the same. Enjoy it, hell that the main reason for building these cars anyway

You're gonna spend all that money and make a badass ride then throw a TCI converter in it? Why not spend the money for a nicer converter? Seems like others on this board like the vigi and yanks A LOT more. I've never bought either so I wouldnt know first hand. Very nice engine though, congrats!

I have a Yank and a TCI both. The TCI is fresh and I'm sending the Yank out next Monday to them to be freshened up. I'd rather not make predictions, it is what it is.

so are you going to put in the yank when you get it back then? Wouldnt it be better performing than the TCI or no?

I have had so many different converters over the years that I have had good and bad from both. My favorite coverter that I had for headers and a stall was the TCI 3800. I used that converter and had it freshened and loosened up 200 rpm to give it a try. I also have a Yank PT 4000 that I'm gonna send in Monday so we'll see how they do.

It feels good to have at least had a hand in doing part of the work in building a motor. Now I just hope it runs as good as I think it should.
