Finally got ss4000 put in, got a question
Finally got around to getting headers and converter put in, man car is completely different. It seems pretty loose to me but this is my first converter besides stock, takes 2500rpm or so to keep up with traffic, maybe little less if I accelerate slower. Biggest thing that makes this annoying is LTs and ory.
Converter locks up around 36-38mph but unlocks at 43-44 and costing down hills at that speed and wont lock back up untill I slow down. What could be causing this?

I guess that the larger stall will make different RPM at a certain MPH, the shifts are set by MPH. Again, I am not a tuner, so I'm going by what I've been told & read on here, i"m sure someone else can give all of the reasons for the changes.
This is from the FAQ in this section.
Do i need a tune??
Maybe. Some people have issues with the car hitting the rev limiter on shifts with a stall, a tune can correct this easily. Also, for the full effect, you might want to decrease/delete the torque management.

I have a ss4000 and it would cause miss fires(because the converter is smaller than stock=less mass) which will turn off the lockup feature. I went through the same thing of locking and unlocking. I got a tune and then everything is great now. The tuner will fix your shift points which are going to be off, you are reving higher than you were stock, and it will make the drivibilty increase big time. Its pretty tight for what it is, but your right about the exhaust getting annoying after awhile..so I just crank the stereo. hehe.

shift points can be left alone if you dont hit rev limiter at wot. You can play with them at the track if you wish to maximize ET, every car is different.
You need adjust the lock up tables to your tastes. You're able to control the various mph at which the converter locks and unlocks. When you're letting off the throttle and coasting the mph is dropping below the lock up value in the table.
also while you're tuning you might as well adjust the misfire temp table. although this isnt usually necessary until you get a cam, it doesnt hurt to do now. I always set mine to test on at 140* test off at 139*. you can plug any 2 numbers outside of your daily driving operating temp range just make sure there is only 1 degree difference. this helps a lot with unlocking problems.
disclaimer: I have no idea what these tables are actually called on hptuners, edit, etc... I just point and click on them to adjust them, they are obvious when your tuner finds them.

Thanks for the info. The mph it locks up at is fine 35-38 but it unlocks and wont lock back up( took it on the highway first time tonight and did the samething). I'll take in get this sorted out. Its kinda of a pain in the *** right now and the smell of gas fumes, probably running rich too is just one more thing on the list.

Ss4000
Does anyone have suggestions in HP Tuners what should be looked at or changed for the SS4000. I just installed this converter also and am hitting the rev limiter on my 2-3. I have re-adjusted the 2-3 shift RPM down 300 RPM and it hasn't done the trick. I had a Yank PY3400 before this and did not have the problems. Just installed the SS4000 two days ago and have about 75 miles on it.
I can attach my tune if necessary, I am a newb tuner and am not 100% sure what I need to be changing for this converter.
Thanks in advance.
