Default I Hate Ls1's

I went to the track yesterday (1/4 mile) and I have an lt1 as you can see with some mods. I have no tune by the way. I ran a 13.4 three times...Well my friend has an ls1 ss stock. He ran 14.0 twice. He wanted me to run it for him so i did and ran a 13.37! That really pissed me off that i beat my car with his car and his **** is stock! So i got my car again and ran another 13.4! then i went around again and ran a 13.31....So i felt a little better that my time was better than his but i hate ls1's!!!!! Well what pisses me off more is that on the way home my opti went out! and it aint the first time....Anyway i have a cc306 cam on the way and now it looks like i'll be gettin another opti...Does my time look good for the mods i have???? How much improvement on my time will i see with the cam and a tune?

if your running a 160* thermostat with out a tune, your prolly running just a tick rich, getting a tune would really help you out a couple tenths or more.

Interesting! I'm running on the stock tune with the mods in my sig. My last time out I ran a 13.53 rolling out of the throttle at the 1/8 mile. I couldn't air it out because I didn't have a helmet with me.

there's nothing to tune for a 160 thermo. it is purely a mechanical part.

If he was running rich it would be more likely because of headers than that.

Your times are not bad (for what you have) and considering the LS1 has superior heads, intake and ignition your car did well.

ummm, wrong. no you don't. It is purely a mechanical part as I said. It has no interaction with anything electronic.

A tuning adjustment that goes well with it is to reduce the fan settings, but you can do that with the stock thermo too since the fan operation is not directly related to the thermo in any way. Sometimes people get confused and think it is though.

A tune is good for other reasons and he should definitely get one, I'm just saying that running rich because his 160 is not "tuned for" is not the issue.

Should have gone with that new MSD Billet piece that replaces the whole optispark setup and supposedly cures it of its many problems, plus it costs the same or less as a new opti I think...just read about it a recent magazine can't remember which one though, perhaps Chevy High Tech Performance?

ive always heard that you have to tune for the 160* t-stat because the intake temperatures wont be the same and it wont burn as complete as before, so you need to lean it down a little bit for it to have the proper amount of fuel in the combustion chamber. and also that people tune for the fans to come on earlier.

lol, well you've heard wrong dude.

the thermo has nothing to do with any of that. The only function it has is to allow coolant flow. A lower temp will allow coolant flow earlier, so the motor will run cooler, that is the only effect it has. And again, there is nothing to tune for it. has absolutely nothing to do with intake temps or amount of fuel or anything like that. that's just funny.
