so i went to replace front pads with lower dust pads. upon reinstalling the calipers, i realized that the lower caliper slide on both front brackets were seized. when i tried to extract the old slides, they just broke.

anyway.... every parts store sells rear brackets separate, but only napa had front brackets. they ONLY came as loaded calipers with brackets.

long story short, i did both calipers up front and brackets.

anyone experience this?

All f-bodies experience this, thats why the rotors warp. When I changed my pads and rotors all the slides were dry, and stuck. I bought all new OEM pins from the dealer and used some anti seize on them and that took care of it.

Same thing happened to me, I had a machine shop get the stuck pins out so I could save the brackets. New pins with lots of grease & new rubber boots, no more warped rotors.

lol.. good to know it's not just me. GM sucks.

my Sten had a similar issue with the rear calipers.. common on all GM trucks with rear disc... but the slides on the T/A were totally fused... not able to be freed up.

rather than go thru the effort to drill... i went with the new brackets, complete with new slides and boots.... for the money, it seemed like the best option.... for a total of $130 i got new calipers, brackets & slides for the front.. they even came with new pads, which i did not use.

how likely is it that my rears will suffer the same fate?

Very likely, as all of mine were frozen.

i never had this issue! maybe its something everybody is doing wrong? i have always greased the pins and antisiezed all the bolts on the brake assembly

lol.. me too. it's how i was taught, but seeing as the previous owner did the brakes last, it's possible.

i can tell you that my Sten had original brakes, and the issue was still present.

i live in new england. never seize is a way of life.

i used the white purpose lithium grease! that works perfect since it waters out when it sees heat so the whole pin is lubercated inside the boot, and i used aircraft c5 high temp copper antiseize on all bolts and pad sliding clips

153,000+ miles on the orginal calipers..no problems with them...I always use the correct lube when I do brake jobs(about every 50K).

yea same here, good to hear no problems after using lube! lube it or loose it

The previous owner never lubed them up. I had to knock on a 16 mm socket and use an impact to get the thing out. Socket still good too.
