Default How much play when your headlights are closed?

Hey guys,

when your 4th gen's headlights are closed, if you tug up on them gently, how much play is there? what's acceptable?

one of mine has more than the other, and i can;t seem to eliminate it. the greater amount of play is maybe 1/4-1/2 inch up.

thanks!

it my experience the play varies on the condition of the motor
I dont think there is any specific tolerence for them and if there is maybe a collision shop would know

And stop tugging your headlights, you'll go blind : P

well when you think about it what else would cause resistance on keeping the headlights down?

My one car has a weak motor on one side and you can lift the closed light up about an inch farther than the good side

interesting. well when i pull up on the headlight, i see the linkage moving, and not the motor.. but your point is good and i'll investigate.

do you ever notice that when closed the headlight flaps in the breeze? i don;t beleive that mine do.. but i really can't confirm.

nah they dont move unless you manually move them up , I dont know what effect air force has on them while driving for obvious reasons but my hunch is the motor

OK good to know.

do me a favor.. when you get a chance, open your hood and watch what happens as you lightly tug on the headlight... then let me know.

I think the reason they don't move when they are up, is that the linkage flips into a more locked position, like your elbow.

Mine move around 1/8-1/4"

upon a close inspection last night, the elbow analogy is valid. i'm not sure if it's a result of a damaged motor, but there is "wobble" in the elbow. i beefed up that little tab-bumpstop and that seems to have helped dramatically.

I can just get my fingers between them and the bumper. Check your bump stops, and tighten down everything connected to the motor.
