Default How hard is it to crack an LT-1 block?

ok the car is all back together again. the opti has been dried, the plugs replaced and headgaskets replaced. no the car has no compression and the mechanic thinks i might have cracked the block or the heads. does this seem possibly. after i blew the head gasket i was still able to drive it, and it ran fine. now all of the sudden the car is being a piece of ****. so how easy is it to crack thesxe blocks and heads?

No compression on which cylinders? To lose compression on all 8, I really don't know what to tell you heh That's some amazing **** if that happened.

it was running fine before? if you had the head gaskets replaced it seems more likely that would be caused by a warped head or one that was improperly torqued back down. did you have the heads milled down before reinstalling ?

If enough water got into the cylinder it could crack the block but I would expect catastrophic failure of the piston and rod at the same time. Water does not compress, bad bad things happen when it gets in the cyclinders and the engine tries to compress it.

Absolutely no compression. Even if you have a small crack the compression gauge should read something. Did you get a good look at it when it was apart, a big crack should be obvious?

Oh and a blown head gasket if not caused by a soft or warped head can lead to rapid overheating which will soften or warp the head causing the head gasket problem to be a reoccuring one. I am no metalurgist but I do know that the stock heads if they get too hot the alloy gets soft and they will not seal as well after that.

no the head gasket blew when i took the car up too high
it never overheated, and drove fine even after then i had to drive it next door. the heads where off everything looked fine, and then everything went back together. then the car wouldnt start so the opti was dried off due to some moisture, and the plugs where replacd. and now theyre telling me the car is getting nowhere. wont start. im not super good with the technical stuff but they seemed just as stumped. someone told me it could be timing? is that possible?

hmm good point^^^ if your rockers are to tight and keeping the valves open that would cause 0 compression.

I would say if it's only cyl #1 you melted a piston or the blew out the rings completely, it would still run I think though on the other 7 pistons. If 1&3, then it could be a blow head gasket between those cyl.

There is always the valves, but that would usually occur right after the heads were put on, not later on. Rockers loosen up, not tighten down, on their own heh

And yes, you can crack any block lol

i took it up to like 6k. the gasket blew. first i had someone replace the oil pan gasket cause i thought that was it. then i find out the head gasket is blown. so i have the car towed to a shop. they fix the gasket, they pout the car back together. the car cranks, wont start. they take it back apart, clean the opti, try again. fail. last i check they where cranking it with the valve covers off, i guess checking compression. they checking #1 before calling it a day, they said they were sending the head out and running more tests tomorrow. thats basically what i know.

You would've had to of sent debris through the cyl wall to cause zero compression, not just a crack. Which means there would have been catastrophic failure.
