Default '99 WS6 rear end sound

Ok, so this morning i noticed that my rear end started making a strange sound. It comes from the passenger side, and has gotten significantly worse. When I start to accelerate, the only way I can describe it is that it sounds like something winding, and when i let off the gas, it slowly winds down. It sounds ALMOST like tire noise, but not quite. In a way, it KIND of sounds like a bike. ANY idea what this could be?
