Default Strength of 3.90 gear vs others?

Does anyone know how it compares? I havent been able to find any tooth counts or anything like that. Thinking about a 3.90 swap soon.

Well the more teeth on the ring gear I believe the less strength. There is more teeth on a 4.10 ring gear which would make it less strong than a 3.73 or 3.42 gear that has less teeth. So a 3.90 gear would be a tad stronger than a 4.10 would but a tad less strong than a 3.73.

yea i know but it also depends on the ammount of teeth the pinion gear has. For example a 4.11 is stronger than a 4.10.

If your talking about a 3.90 gear for a 7.5" 10 bolt I believe the only manufacturer that makes 3.90's for our rears is Motive so I would give them a shout and they could tell you how many teeth are on the pinion gear.

Actually the strength is due to the pinion size, it has nothing to do with the ring gear. A 4.10 has less teeth on the pinion than a 3.73 & it is also smaller in diameter, making less available tooth contact & therefore less ultimate strength. This makes the higher numerical gears weaker.

hmm, so a 37/9 4.11 would be stronger then by the sounds of that...

can anyone give me the counts on 3.73 or 3.42?

I dont want to do this if its gonna be considerably weaker.

i cant imagine its gonna make or break ya, the 10 bolts either gonna hold up or its not. its not like your comparing 2.73 to 4.10. 3.73 to 3.90 cant make that big a difference as far as strength i wouldnt think.

Don't the shafts usually go on 10bolts before the ring/pinion?

The only shafts I consider to be in the rear is the axles.

^ lol re-read that sentence up to "is"

our axles should hold up before the gear teeth, worn out axle bearings are what usually take them out sooner than the gears.
