Default Cant Down Shift To 2nd

As the title says when I'm slowing down to pull in to a road or parking lot and I try to down shift into 2nd, I cant. When slowing down every so often I can get it into 2nd when I'm still doing like 45mph. Another way it goes into 2nd is by pushing the clutch in putting it into 1st (not releasing the clutch) then shifting straight back into 2nd and then releasing the clutch. It shifts up easily when driving and it goes into second easily when the car is not running. The car has the skip shift eliminator on it and I didn't know if maybe thats causing it to block out 2nd when driving. Let me know what you guys think.

try puting it in neutral with the clutch out, blip the throttle, push the clutch back in then it should drop right in to 2nd.

Ok I'll try this. Do you know though what the reason is that 2nd is block down shifting but not going up.

Is it hard to downshift into any other gears?

No I can go to any gear just fine. Its just down shifting into second that gives me a problem.

I can't help diagnose the issue, but I can tell you that my car had the exact same issue. My car would rarely downshift into second unless I did what you described or slow down to almost a complete stop. I had no other issues, besides that at the time.

Synchros. If it were all gears I would say the clutch isn't disengaging properly, but if its just one gear I would say you have a bad synchro.

well, if it's a synchro I would think it would be difficult to get it in gear at high rpm when the teeth on the synchro have to mesh with the gear, but at lower rpm like he discribed, then I suspect a problem with the skip shift mechanism,
what's it feel like, is it grinding a bit, or acting like it's blocked from going in gear from the skip shift selenoid?
if it's the later, try unplugging the skip shift plug underneath and see if the problem persist

Ya it feels completely blocked. Its like when I drove other five speeds: They block out 1st until you slow down to about 10mph. Thats how it feels its just down shifting into second.

It's the skip shift sel. malfunctioning, do the mod to disable it.

The skip shift only activates when it gets a 12V signal. This does NOT happen on a downshift as described. This is not caused by a skip shift unless you have grossly altered your ECM( not likely). The problem seems to be blocker ring wear. The reason you don't see it on an upshift is because it is the downshift that has a greater synchronizer load.

/\ With blocker ring wear, and I take it you mean the friction material, it wouldn't "block" the shifter linkage from going in gear; it would either result in the synchronized gear not locking up and spinning or it may grind if the slider didn't have enough travel to make up for the width of the material.

I had this same problem and although it doesnt make sense to me, sixspeedsinc suggested and sounded pretty certain that the LS7 clutch I was running was causing this, someho eengagement wasnt at the correct place, so I was glazing over the 2ndgear blocker ring.

and thats all I had really, diffculty down shifting into 2nd...
