Nope not worth it save a cupple more bucks and buy a program like HP tuners and learn how to use it. Thats if you plan making your car faster ( headers,cam,heads...).
Hand helds are a waste for the money and they are limited on what you can do which is hardly anything.

A tune on a Automatic for around 500 (or buy your owne tuneing program) will make your auto wake big time but a hand held can not get into your PCM and do the things like a program can do not even close.

You can go to www.hptuners.com for HPTuners and www.efilive.com for EFILive. They both talk to the PCM and read your current tune. From there you can modify the tune and reload the modified tune. I have been using EFILive for years. You also get a logging software which is needed to know what to change.
Good luck.

if you still decide to buy a handheld. the only one worth getting is the diablo predator. i just bought one for my 2000 ws6 a4 and i def like it alot. its the next best thing to getting a dyno tune or having hp tuners, etc. check out thier website. you can even get a custom tune when you do h/c and with the diablo you can modify parameters like a/f, spark timing etc. check it out. then you could always sell it later on and use it towards hp tuners when you start to get good at tuning....

This thread really belongs on PCM Diagnostics & Tuning.
I first bought a Hypertech Tuner for my truck about five years ago. I've owned EFILive for about three and a half years and there's absolutely no comparison in the capabilities and what you can do with even a stock vehicle. I analized the Hypertech tune and found that it advaced the timing 3 degrees (compared to stock) in the high octane timing table, that's all. My suggestion is to not waste your money.
