T6 turbo or TTs on carbed LS1 1st gen firebird swap, help convince me!
The engine is in and i have a few last parts to collect. The parts i havent bought yet are pretty much the only parts i would need to interchange with turbo parts. Here is what i have as it is.
Late 2000 LS1 with 241 heads, upgraded rod bolts, about 60k on it.
Patriot dual gold springs
7.450 chromolly pushrods
2001 truck coils
236/236 .651/.651 110+4LSA cam
Moroso 7qt pan with PH8A remote filter and 1/2" lines
LPE High volume pump (+30% flow over ls6)
victor JR intake
MSD carbed ignition with 3 bar MAP sensor
new OEM fuel tank
Holley 97gph fuel pump
3/8" braided SS line all the way
The drivetrain i feel is pretty bullet proof
RAM clutch/flywheel
D&D 30 spline T56
8.5" 4.56posi rear from 74 nova (speculated to be stronger than 12bolts)
lakewood traction bars
moroso subframe connectors
28" and 26" MT slicks for the track, 30" Et street radials for the road on Telstars
Anyway my friend left his T6 turbo on my desk for the past couple months so everytime i log onto LS1tech i think about making ngine a turbo setup. With the LT headers being $660 for coated and being able to pick up two turbos for about that much i'm kind of really thinking about it. I already have the extra oil lines and a more than adequate oil pump. I have all the extra room in my 1st gen engine bay, plus plenty of room in front of my radiator for a FMIC. I also havent bought my carb or street scoop yet.
I've been talking with my friend and he says i should g or street two turbos with around a .50 AR (whatever that is) and that should be adequate for the 350. He also suggested internal waste gates.
Anyway i dont know a whole lot about turbos but i know my cam is horrible for a turbo set up as it's barely useable for an NA setup. I figure with a carbed set up and all the extra room in the engine bay the turbo install wouldnt be that bad. What do you all think?

Take it from me, turbocharging a carbed motor is a freaking nightmare - ask me a how I know...
Fuel Injection is the way to go for Forced Induction, hence why I'm building my LQ4.

I want to know where you are going to get a pair of quality turbos for $660? If you manage that then putting boost to that carbed LS1 should be easy for you!
Seriously though you should read the sticky to get a better feel for the cost involved. I am redoing my setup and have already spent $700 in piping and flanges. Double that if you are doing stainless.
I am not that familiar with carb boost setups but there are alot of people doing it with regular SBC's so I'm sure it will be no problem in your case.
