Default Programming and Little Batteries

I am considering going to a lightweight battery but wonder how much editor I can use with that type of battery.

I am almost certain that programming it will not cause a problem but I dont want to fry the PCM....who all has a programmer or the editor and does uploads on a regular basis with the lightweight battery?

It can be marginal even with a full sized battery IMO. And you don't want it on a charger while you flash because the voltage will be too high. Here's what I think you should do: install the light-weight battery, but use jumper cables to another battery with a good charge already on it anytime you flash the PCM.
