Default Keyless entry barely works!!

I've already replaced the battery and nothing changed. Should i just bite the bullet and buy a new one on ebay for $40?? I don't know what else to try. My gauges also sweep and the trip resets on the start up... i don't know if they could be related. is there anything else i can do??

You replaced the car battery or remote battery? Gauge sweep and trip odo reset on the 99's is from low voltage from the car battery - I'd check the terminal connections or have it load tested. If the car battery completely dies the keyless entry won't work at all, happened to me and had to unlock it with the door key.

I replaced the remote battery and will probably replace my car battery this summer. Could that solve my keyless entry problem??

Bring it somewhere and get a free load test. For sure if it's the battery it'll stop the gauge sweep and odo reset - probably the keyless entry issue too if it's bad.

hmmm, i'll have to do that soon. i wonder if it is the car battery because i will charge and start it on one weekend (it's in storage) and i'll have to charge it the next weekend too. I don't think it holds a charge really well even after letting it run for 20 minutes.

99% its your car battery! when i forgot my manual fans on once, when i came back to start it, the car barely started and when it did my gauges were going crazy all over the place until my voltage came back normal! and that is the only time it happened when it had low volts

If it is doing that then odds are your battery is shot. How old is the battery?

Was asking because the battery in my car up until a month ago was what came with the car... from the assembly line in 1998 Had I known it was that old I would have replaced it sooner and avoided the headache in the parking lot at work later.

The problems you cited don't sound like a remote fob issue. Sounds like starter battery stuff.

But the remote problem could be you simply need to take it apart and clean off the gunk/goo from the back of the button pad. Clean off the back of the buttons and the circuit board where they touch with a very slightly damp cloth. Clean off the battery contacts, too.

That should help.

Battery and/or cables. Your BCM is seeing low voltage and doesn't like it, that's where the keyless entry functions are housed. Buy an Optima and clean or replace both cables - POW - fixed.
