I know a 112 LSA sounds a good bit choppier at idle than a 114 LSA, but how does the sound of the two compare when being revved? Like the idle, will the 114 sound more like a stock rev than the 112?

An odd question, I know, but I'm curious.

Well, the 114 will always sound smoother then the 112, but it will also depend on the size of the cam you get, intake/exaust duration and lift.

A 220/220 with a 112 LSA will probably sound more like stock then a 232/230 114, for example.

Any idea approximately what size cam your looking for?

I'm leaning towards the TR224 (.561 lift) or MMS 224 (.570 lift), both on a 114 LSA.

A4's should get 114's and M6's should look at 112's

I love the sound of my 224/224 114 cam. Its smooth with just the right amount of lope! But that also depends on how low you want you idle. Example: A 114LSA at 800rpms will sound like a 112 at 900 rpms give or take

ive heard hotcams before and those are 112 but i really dont like that chop. Now a 224/224 112 cam sounds the best of any i have heard, but not all that different from my 114

isn't it the intake side that is most important for idle quality? I am not sure but, I think it is. Of course loba separation angle is important to but, I am refering solely about the duration. I am sorry for thread jumping but I can't remember, and this thread reminded me that I was uncertain.

That's interesting, 98TAauto. I'm kinda torn between the 112 and 114. On the one hand, I like how bad the 112 sounds, but I feel like the 114 would be a good combination of lope and comfort. If the sound can really be controlled by such a small change in idle speed, I think the 114 would be the best option. It seems as though I could almost tune it to idle however I want it. Thanks for the info.

Any more thought on this?

I just installed a TR224/112LSA cam in my car. I love it! I kind of wish it had more of lumpy idle to it Either way I am glad I went with the 112 instead of the 114. I like the powerband to come in earlier as well as the lopier sound. I have made some minor adjustments in edit, but nothing with the idle. It still on the stock idle 800rpms, no drilling of the TB nor have I adjusted the TB screw. Hasn't even died on me once
I'd say if emissions is a concern get the 114 you will still have some lope, but if no emissions are a concern then get the 112.
Just my $.02 worth.

the only difference is that the powerband may come into play 200-300rpms earlier if that, but they both seem to peak around 6200-6400 on most cars I see(just going by dynoes I see posted on here all the time)

I know when my idle was 800 on my car it sounded like the car wanted to cut off and on from the lope. At 950rpms in park it still hits friggin hard. Mines 950 in park and 850 in drive. I just had a hellova time trying to get mine to idle with the stall and A4.

i still doubt you would hear a difference in a 224/224 112 M6 right beside a 114 M6. If you can, it's not gonna be much

I have never heard of that. A single pattern cam (same intake/exaust durations) will idle much better then a split pattern (different intake/exaust durations), however.

So a 224/224 114, will idle better then a 220/228 114, for example.
