LS1 power capabilities
ok so im new to this fourm and had a few questions.
i was wondering what kind of power these motors are capable of without going full blown race motor. is it possible that i get 600rwhp on stock internals and aluminum block with turbos or superchargers, thats going to be somewhat reliable?
at what hp numbers are you guys breaking stock cranks and rods and blocks?

Guys really aren't breaking cranks or blocks. Go take a stroll in the Forced Induction section and have a peek at some setups.

what im trying to accomplish is 600rwhp thats pump gas friendly and streetable. im thinking procharger. but at the same time i dont want to spend 15k to do it
its going in a 1986 chevy c10 2wd shot bed with 4 link and narrowed 9" rear and adjustable qa1 coilovers on all 4 corners. its going to be a pro touring truck

Rods and pistons dont really last too long on power adders. For those kind of power levels youll probably want to at least replace rods and pistons. If those let go, you could wind up toasting your motor, costing way more than replacing thses in the first place. The crank and block have been proven past 1000 HP a few times.

get yourself a nice set of heads (Trickflow and AFR are top end stuff), a good blower or turbo cam w/ associated valvetrain goodies like higher lift springs, new Ti retainers maybe even roller rockers if you want (depending on your setup, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering has some nice cams i.e. the gt7 and gt11 if your really serious about power), a good intake manifold and throttle body setup (a FAST 92mm intake and a 92mm TB are the top of the line), and i would recommend and APS Twin turbo system w/ a GOOD boost controller (something like an AMS-500 or eBoost 2). you'll need a nice fuel system (aeromotive components are the best if you have the cash), and headers/full exhaust if you dont go the turbo route.
other things to consider...YOU WILL NEED FORGED PISTONS!!! the stock pistons can probably take 600hp for a while, longer if this motor lives a mild life, but if there is one internal component that you replace, make it the pistons (rods are a good idea too ).
*NOTE: a boost controller is not nessecary with the APS system, but if you want to run more than 8psi (what the system is set for stock) for racing as well as lower boost for the street, you'll need a controller. i'm sure you can get cheaper ones, but AMS and eBoost are the top of the line stuff.

There is has only been 1 person that i saw that qouted the right ball park range for a forced induction cost for these vehicles. They can go anywhere from 12-19k depending on the setup and work all involved in the sytem you are putting in.

We've been doing it for some time now. 580 to 620 rwhp safely with FI. The extreme has been 650 rwhp, but we really don't recommend that.

600+rwhp and under 10k do not mix, sorry unless you buy everything used and get real lucky, plus come up with some smokin deals, your probably not going to do it for 10k. Stock bottom end and 600rwhp is also not a good idea at all, you will be buying a new motor real soon. Check out the dyno section for some 600rwhp combos and see what people are having to do for it.

would it be more peliable if i was to do the same thing to a 6.0
i have a buddy that owns a fuel injection and tuning shop, so he can get me some decent deals. thats the only reason i say i can do it for that cheap. i know what it costs
