Default Broke a 918 after 7000 miles

So the car has been running really wierd lately. Come to find out that I has a miss on number 1. Well being a dumbass and assuming that its a coil pack or spark plug I continued to drive around on it. Well changed the spark plugs and they were all pretty messed up but the number one was just black. Looked to me like exhaust gases. Well I finally said screw it and took it to the dealership to find out that the valve spring for the exhaust on #1 broke. Get this though, even with three days of driving on it, I still didnt drop the valve. I talked to Comp Cams and they said they were gonna send me the new 918 springs as long as I send back the old and broken ones. Great customer service. A drink to Comp Cams

Go over to LS1GTO and see what happened to someone there, not so lucky. Motor internals look like a bomb went off inside the motor.

Unfortunately last year would put you right at prime risk.

Also, to get a new batch you would have to show proof of purchase and the purchase would have to be within a year of purchase. Thats at least what one of the Comp Cams reps told me

Consensus, if you have 918's in your car right now, change them. Seems pretty obvious to me. And if your response to that is "well the new ones should be fine" then think about it, how do you KNOW they're fine?? Every company is going to say they're new design is better and reliable, but the 918's have been having lots of problems. Always confuses me when people still order them, especially since they can order other springs for the same if not cheaper price that have PROVEN to be good...

I'm in the process of swapping in patriot gold dual springs right now, it was a no brainer for me, with all the trouble comp has had with 918's, and some of their other stuff, I didnt even consider them as an option. With all the hype about comp products, how can they not get springs right? The duals may add a little weight, but considering the Ti retainers, Im hoping it will be a push compared to singles, and even if not, I like the idea of some backup if one of the mains does break. Just my .02.

If you have 918's, IMO take them out now!! I just lost my 6.0 due to a broken 918 spring.

There has to be some sort of reason why the "revised" 918 is good to .625" lift now. Sounds lke everyone "knew a guy" that had a busted *** spring that totalled his car out, and now no one wants to buy 918's.

Comp just exchanged my broken 918's, they didn't ask when or where I purchased them. Just as long as I sent the old ones back. It's easy to tell if you have the new 918's they are a totally different color.

Doing the same thing over and over the same way and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.

Call me insane then but doing the samething over and over using a different product might not necessarily result in the same outcome
