To cam or not to cam? TSP224R VS. TR Cheater
Well, I'm down to a couple of head and cam pkgs. They are as follows...
From Texas Speed their PRC stg. 2.5 5.3L heads with 224R camshaft(224/224 .581 114 LSA, or...
Thunder Racing LS1 cheater pkg, AFR 205's and a 214/230 .601/.575 117 LSA camshaft.
My requierments are to be a daily driver with +or- 400rwhp. Also it must pass emissions testing in california and do all this through the stock exhaust manifolds(because Im from cali and it wont pass visual inspection with LT's). A little bit of lope in the exhaust note would be nice.
So which do yall think will get me closest to my goals, also anyone who has run something similar to these please let me know about your set up. Thanks all.

Pretty sure the CheaTR won't pass emissions unless you have a "Friend." If money's not the issue, I'd go AFR and the TR224 vs. the TSP 224R. Basically the same performance, but the TR is easier on your valvetrain and shows just as good number, some would even claim better. Neither will be as good as they can be without long tubes, That's why the CheaTR shines. So, really not a whole lot of big power option to be truly, visual and emissions legal. You'll probably have to compromise some where, for instance the PRC won't technically pass visual either.

If you're getting the AFR 205 heads, why not go with the cam that Tony Mamo research, developed, and tested those heads on: the AFR 6016 - 224/228, .581 lift. Do a search on Tony Mamo and you'll find his dyno results and testing. Great street cam, especailly with the high velocity 205 heads. Makes killer mid-range power.

Well because Im not set on the AFR's yet, thats why I posted this, to try to get some more info. If these two pkgs will perform in roughly the same manner then I will probably go with Texas speed, primarily due to cost and you get alot more with their pkg than TR's. Of course you get what you pay for! So I just wanna know if these pkgs are about equal or if one is really better than the other, and how close yall figure Ill get to my goals with either one.

Go with the TSP package, IMO 10HP isn't worth an extra $1000... I just ordered a TSP's 228R camshaft, I'm not even gonna do heads with mine since I have the LS6 heads. I just can't see spending all that money when I could sell my motor and put it towards like a stroked 402 or 408. Figure if you sell your motor for $2000 and take that $3000 that you will spend after gaskets and fluid thats almost a new motor.
