Question 5.3 Vortec swap in a Jeep XJ?

I would like to swap a newer 5.3 with its tranny and transfer case in a 92 Jeep Cherokee.
Just looking for anyone that has done it, or advice that would help.
I know the LS has been used in a lot of other cars, but this one will need to be smog legal in CA.

Thanks.

Can't help you with CA regs, but if you can get past CARB, the motor is a fairly common drop-in. I took my first drive in a CJ with an LQ9/4L65e combo yesterday and it's the bomb.

Good luck.

Its been done to an xj before...I think over in saudi arabia. They seem to do most of the odd swaps first. haha. I havent seen any over here done yet.

Its definetly possible. I wanted to do one in my XJ for awhile. You just gotta build motor mounts and a trans crossmember, and it will "fit"...

Ide like to see someone do it tho! Since its not gonna happen for me anytime soon

Nice Jeep, funny to see big street tires on it

We never really needed more power. We have a 6" TNT long arm lift and 33 12.5 16 with 4.56 locked. We went places we never thought we could go:O
But we got a trailer and the 4.0 just struggles to hard on the hills pulling it.

I want a 6.2 Caddy Vortec with the 6 speed auto. Then go to a 4.88 or 5.12.
My wife is fine with the 4 speed 5.3 and 4.56. (cheaper too)

I am considering a 5.3/4L60e swap in my '89 XJ. It is possible to make it all SMOG legal in California too.
