Speed limiter????

Speed limiter???? I took my programmer off and i just got my car done an i got onto the highway and it got to 113 and it hits like a speed limiter is that right?

No i am about to get a tune. i was just curious it just seems slow for a speed limiter. It sucks because i also got gears and my true top speed is like 90 lol.

I had the same problem with my 94 Formula. After researching this I found out why the car shuts down at 113mph.
Reason #1: Is that GM was required to put a speed limiter on the vehicles they produced to match the speed rating of the tires on the vehicle. If they didn't- and an accident occured due to someone driving faster than what was rated on the tire, GM could be sued.
So GM made 2 versions of the Formulas and etc cars...,
The first was a Basic Formula with "S" Speed Rated tires and a 113 mph speed limiter in which the computer will actually cut off the fuel flow until the vehicle slows down a few MPH. Thus any car with an "S" rated tire will shut down at the "S" rated speed (113 mph)
Second was All Trans Ams and Z28's that came with "Z" Rated Tires in which the tires were rated at 149+ MPH. Tire manufacturers can't promise that at 150 the tire won't blow, but will say their safe to 149 mph. (Liability Perposes)
However if you own a F-Body that has a Speedo of 150+ then you have Z Rated tires from the factory and a Speed Limiter of at least 149 mph. Although usually a little higher. More like 155-165 mph or even un limited!
Hope this helps out a little. Like I said I ran into this problem when I did my gear swap and My car was going Maybe 90mph on the highway and it was saying I was doing 113 mph and it would hit the speed limiter, Then at the 1,000 ft mark at the track It would bounce off the speed limiter as well.
Needless to say that was the first place I took it when I installed the gears. Wanted to see what it done to my ET's. Well once I fixed my Speedo I actually picked up .2xx's of a second. I was content with the increase of acceleration, especially from a roll!
