Hi all, is there any way to prime an LSX oil pump besides turning the car over and over again? I know with Gen I SBC you can stick a gear on a drill and stick it in the distributor hole and spin the oil pump. Is there any such way to do it on these? I know its a totally different design and location and all.

Oil pump is driven directly by the crankshaft, the crank has to spin to run the pump. Some people reccomend packing the pump with vasoline to help prime it.

Yep, there's a good 3-4 seconds after initial startup after a H/C swap where there is no oil pressure at the gauge. Just use lots of assembly lube on your cam and you should be okay.

Thanks all, I plan on lubing the cam up well, and once I get the rocker assemblys back together, give them a good squirt of oil before I turn over the car for oil pressure

Even pouring some oil into the pump at install time helps. My pump spun very easily by hand when it was dry. After I poured some oil through it there was quite a difference in the effort to turn the gear.

I found a way to pressure prime before start up.

I used one of these : http://http://www.motiveproducts.com/02bleeders.html

I cut the tube that normally would go to the master cylinder and got a fitting that screws into the bock on the pass. side.

I put about 2 quarts in the resevoir and the rest in the crank case ,pumped it up to about 15 PSI and waited until it was almost empty.

I took the fitting out and put the plug back in the side of the block cranked it over and there was no lifter clanging or any noise at all.

Worked very well.

I just added oil and disconected my remote mount filter, held the lines up in the air and filled each up the reconnected them. I got oil pressure in about 3 seconds. 55psi cranking oil pressure with my high volume LPE oil pump.

yeah my dad had mentioned he plans to pressure prime mine once the cam goes in
