You'll need a bigger cam and much better heads if you want to sniff 550 from a 383.

So what kind of power do you think it would make over 500?

A 383ci engine with that cam and heads is going to make around 100HP LESS than your goal.

it will make good power, you can get 500 out of it, the thing is the bore size limits bigger valves.

You should easily break 500 on a 408 unless you have a very high stall convertor and a TH400 trans. But for a 408, you will DEFINATELY need a bigger cam than a little MS4. Rough estimate, add 10 degrees duration to each lobe going from a 346 to a 408 for similar camshaft / cid ratio.

Thanks. That is very helpful information. So If I wanted a car that had the same street characteristics as my H/C car, I would go with a 240/242. What about the lift? That should go up too correct?

Lift will because the lobes will be bigger assuming you're just going with longer duration in the same lobe line (LSK, XFI, XE-R, XE for the common comp cams stick). Displacement absorbs overlap, so yes, the characteristics should be similar. You don't neccessarily need it ground on lobes with .700 lift or anything, you have to stay within your heads and valvetrain. If the heads back up or flow goes static at say, .650 then don't run a lift over .650 and make sure your springs can handle the lift. Don't be afraid of lift either though. 2 valve engines love more lift. I run .644 on my 228 intake lobe, nowadays these springs are made for it.

This set-up should be well over 550rwhp lets just hope it all goes as planned. Should have it finished after summer Right now T56 and the ls1 engine is out on a stand. I installed an 228/232 cam in it and after 6months of running good it just hit the *******. lifter grinded cam up.
