Default Stock flexplate bolts for converter w/tci plate =no no.

I had a bitch of a day today. I pulled out my 4l60e out of my 01 t/a to install a new tci flex plate to replace the stock. Every thing was going fine untill i started her up to here a rod knock type noise from the frt of the trans.

At first i thought i didnt put the converter in all the way. So out came the trans again. The converter was in just fine. Put it all back together and same thing. I noticed then that the heads of the 3 bolts that bolt the flexplate to converter were shinny and worn looking.

Looks like they stick out to much and are hitting most likely the bolts for the rear cover.

Any ideas of what bolts i can put in there. and where to get them

I think you need 12mmX1.5X20mm or it could be 10mmX1.5X20mm. I think you need a hardened bolt like grade 8 or something.

I think both you and Sweet71 can benefit from the Pics I took. You can see how much thinner the ARP bolt is vs the grade 8 bolt I have next to it. Now, neither of these hit on mine, but the grade 8 one was really close to the rear cover bolt heads. Hope this helps, visuals always help me.

Cool. thanks man, the head on the arp one looks like it will clear my only concern with the arp bolt is the amount of penetration it will have on the converter

I actually have two different size ARP bolts, the other is the length of the Grade 8 one. These are also 1/2-20 bolts though and for my neal chance TC. I'm not sure how long the standard ARP one is, I know the TCI FP is thicker though and you might be right about it not being long enough. I now have the Mezeire FP and it's completely diffferent.

The counterbores on that flexplate dont look very deep. My tci flexplate 399753, from what I remember had a deeper counterbore. My bolts hit my 4l80e dust shield but not anything else, good luck.

Thanks for the pics. I was thinking of going to the hardware store and getting some grade 8s.
