Default 1971 Chevelle LS1 6 Speed swap From the Beging

I bought a 71 chevelle 4 months ago thinking it was done. The moter ended up having a dead cyclinder, so I decided to do a Quick swap. It did not go so quick. The frame and floors ended up bieng in very bad shape. The frame was completly rusted out. So here is my story. Feel free to ask any ?'s. I'm still learning as I go.

Default I Finally fond a motor

I ordered the first motor from a local salvage yard for $3500 which I though was a steal. When it showed up there was was no 6 speed trans attached like I was promised. So I waited anouther week and they finally fond me one. So here it is. I jump right in a did the first test fit.

Default Finally got a new frame

After a week of hunting I finally got a frame. It was out of a 69 El Camino. The guy at the salvage yard said it was the same as the chevelle. HE WAS WRONG!!! I have to take 4" out of the middle and 6" out of the back. But it will be worth it. This frame is fully boxed and is in great shape.

Default Back from powder coating

It looks even better than I though. It matches the car perfect. I though Powder coating was a lot more expensive. He only charged me $300 for everything.

Default Headers didnt fit

Headers didnt fit, so I made my own. I used the Ls1 flange. A Camero big block on the driver side and a chevelle big block on the passenger. Then welded it all togerther. It took alot of time but I think they came out nice.

Default Its ROLLING

It rolls and steers. I just have to put the posi rear end and gears in. The brake lines and air lines for the air ride and the chassi will be done. O ya I ordered new wheels and tire also. 18x 9.5" out back and 18x8" up front. It sure sits low. Its going to look bad ***

Great going.. keep up the work and the posting of pictures.. what engine adapter did you use (or if you made them, what style ?)

After looking at your pictures. I sure remember what you are going through, but I was lucky I didn't have to rebuild my frame.. good going on it.
