Not vary many people have ever heard of this firebird it's #14 of 21 built in 95. got really lucky to get this. has any of you heard of it. heres just about everything i know about it.
In 1988, the Pontiac Banshee was born. Pontiac created it as a prototype for its 4th generation Firebirds. The Prototype Cost Pontiac $2 Million to build in 1988. Part of the Banshee's influence can be seen on the front noses of the 91-92 Firebirds and 4th generation Formulas and base model Birds. The Banshee name first appeared in the '60s as a code name for the forthcoming '67 Pontiac Firebird. The Banshee was modeled for use in the movie Knight Rider 2000 and that it was used in the movie "Demolition Man."

From 1994-1996 Sunset Pontiac Clearwater flordia Took stock Formula firebirds and turned them into Banshee look-a-likes. This transformation included looks and performance modifications. When they first started doing this they did few modifications. By 95 the stansard Package included: Dominator Hood Paint, Side Air Extractors, Windshear GT Rear Spoiler, BFG 275/40ZR17 Tires, 17” O.Z. Wheels, Flowmaster 2 Chambered Exhaust, Chrome Exhaust Tips, High Performance Air Intake System, K&N Air Filter, Banshee Identification Package, Banshee Embroidered Interior, LT1 Identification, Titanium Window Tint, Build Number ID Console Plate.

Reported production:

everything looks cool except those side air extractors. No offense but since it was a dealer built car its really not a rare collectible. How much did you pay?

Tell that to guys that own a Berger Camaro. Those are both rare and very collectable. Not to mention, value is what somebody is willing to pay. I like the banshee and the idea of having something different.

Very nice car. That car is rare and will be worth a lot. As for the banshee name I thought that was the car built in 1967 that was a 2 door corvette look alike with pontiac features. Im not sure, I just remembered seing something on American Muscle car on speed channel once.

The Bansheee was used in the movie "Demolition Man" and "Back to the Future 2." It was NOT used in Knight Rider 2000. NBC wanted to use it but GM said NO!!!!!!!! My guess was that the 4th gen Firebird was due out soon and drew many stying cues from it... so GM said NO!!!!!!!!

The car in the Knight Rider Moive was actually a Doge Stealh with custom body panels.

For more info see.... what I wish GM would build (http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=852368&highlight=)

like the rims and 2-tone hood. also dont like the air extractors.

banshee info: there was a real banshee car made. it was also just sold in 07 at barret jackson. it wasnt a code name for the firebird....it was actually a car built to compete with the corvette, made in 1964. only one was ever made, a prototype that got the idea axed because GM didnt want anything to compete with its precious corvette. it was a 2 seater, lightweight sportscar. its looks were also brought over to the firebird. if you havent seen it before, imagine a 1st gen bird fucking a 68 vette, and youd get the banshee as their offspring.

better yet, just found this article, lots of good pics:

I would park that thing in a climate controlled garage and forget about it. Maybe take it out every couple of weeks to throw a coat of wax on it. That is one rare unit, man. I didn't they they actually put them into "production." I thought they were just a prototype.

Brangeta
04-28-2008, 06:34 PM
The prototype is completely different from these. These are just regular production cars that were modified with heat extractors, special paint, and a few other options. A collectible car for sure! But based on what you're saying, you think they're based on the concept car or something.
