The name says it all. I have been over 140mph 8 times. I just wanted to see what other kind of speed demons there are out there. Ride alongs DONT COUNT!! You have to be driving the car to count.

3 times. Personally I think its a bad idea these days so I wouldn't do it again. Chances of hurting someone else are too high these days.

Alot of variables... but if the conditions are right, I dont mind letting it all out.

Never. I barely hit 140 once on a deserted highway at 8 AM on a Sunday. I've never been in a car over 110 so I wanted to see what it felt like. I was doing 65 and just punched the gas. I held it to 140 and started getting scared so I shut it back down to 65 and havn't gone that fast since.

Now the only time my car gets over 75 is at the track :D

Never I pushed it to about 130 thats good enough for me, the cop thing makes me real nervous, Ive got enough tickets, I think I need a radar detector...

I won't take my car that fast because I feel a certain level of personal responsibility towards society as a whole (not only other drivers, but my family and others who rely upon me). I think it is a pretty immature thing to do. I would say my level of comfort is significantly diminshed after about 110-115 mph on a dry (DAY not NIGHT) with zero traffick.

I used to do it very often in my old 91 Z28. That was between 7-9 years ago though. I've mellowed out quite a bit. I haven't taken the Formula above 135, and I've only done that once.
When I make a "Bonzai!" run, I make sure it's late at night, and no other cars are around. If I lose it and disintegrate my car, I don't want to take anyone else with me. Nothing pisses me off like seeing some douchenozzle swerving in and out of traffic and then jumping up to triple digits with other cars around.

Outside of this town, theres a three mile stretch of nothing on a perfectly flat road. There's nothing on either side, and I made a run to ensure the clearance of the road. I took the car up to the top of 5th gear (with my 4.10s) which is about 160. I did it once, and I'm done. Just curious how she'd do :D

it's all good and fun, but why incriminate yourself online publicly for all to see???

since i've had the new car probably only like 5 times (in 3+ years) ... but back when i was 19 i used to do it all the time... i liked to top out my acura vigor everyday on the highway to and from college, and plenty of times in high school. it topped out at 146 or so too. cruised at redline in 5th for about 9 minutes once, took that long to take a 15-20 min trip. no radar detectors. just luck i guess.

hell now if i go 6 miles over in the formula i get pulled over, i don't know how i got away with everything back then.

145 in my SS (fairly stable, stock suspension at the time)
155 in a C6 Z51 (like a sunday drive)

If the conditions are right, Im like the rest of you. I dont usually do it in town, unless there is NO one on the road around me. Other than that I usually go to the boonies and let her loose out there.

When I get on the bike, its so easy to get over 140. It just loves speed. The faster you go, the more stable she is. But if you fall, its all over. Thats why I have only done it twice on my bike and the other 6 were in my T/A

I've touched 150 once on a empty and somewhat freshly paved road and thats enough for me. Don't plan on doing it again.

Ive done it twice...late at night...on local freeways, only for a brief couple minutes though. And I'm not so sure I want to risk doing it again. Both were racing friends of mine. What amazed me is how efforless the car got there...these things are amazing

I used to do this every now and then but it isn't worth it anymore out here in California. They will rape your ass in charges, fines, and jail time. Not only that but they'll impound your car.

Perfect example, last night a Acura TL and a Mercedes sedan flew by me doing atleast 120-130, I hit the throttle to see if I could catch up, but I looked down saw I was already doing 95 [ I was cruising at 60 ]. I said to myself WTF are you doing and wwent back to cruising speed.

I went 130 once and that was only cause this damn mustang didn't want to give up!

did it twice......man its fast!! I hit 141 once...then last sunday took it to 143!

I lived in Germany for a couple years. Opened it up a few times in the "No Restriction" zones on the autobahn. Now that I'm back in the states, the highest speed my car sees is whatever I can run in the 1/4.

i've ridden in cars that i've went 150+ in, but i have not personally done it in my car... first of all because my car is limited at 108, and secondly because i just dont feel that i need to prove to myself that my car can go that fast really... considering that just about every car these days besides a metro basically can get to speeds of 120 or over and they aren't anything special... i just feel that since i know my car can either do that, or it will blow up in the process because i have the worst luck with stuff like that, i just don't try... fastest ive been was 178 in my friends' z06, and that was totally enough for me to last about 5 years without going that fast ever again lol... and my other friend has a GTO that ive been in several times at 150 or so... but knowing my luck some little 4 year old would be in the middle of the interstate and i would hit him lol

Shoot, any faster, and your head starts bouncing around so you really cant see the speedo anyway. I didnt see the tunnel vision until I hit 150 on my bike. The wind got harder and harder the faster and faster I went. So there really is something there with Aerodynamics...lol

Then ignore the post. Its simple. Now you are getting squashed because you didnt keep something to yourself. Theres a time and a place for everything. Apparently you need to improve upon that too.

I once opened it up on a 5,000 foot taxiway of a uncontrolled airfield. I had been there a few times and aircraft traffic was light, so I figured I could just get a quick run in.

Drove up, lined it up and just let it go. Touched about 135-ish and let off the gas. Coasted down, turned it around, and that started heading back when I saw a bunch of green suits running out of a hanger.

I thought I was busted but it turned out to be the ANG doing their weekend drill over there. They were giving me thumbs up and all types of stuff, but I couldn't stay because i shouldnt have been out there and I didn't want to get busted.

Now that I read this I do remember that one time I had it pegged off the speed limiter (167 MPH) while doing lines off a strippers ass. I wasn't really paying attention to the road. i think I was steering with my knee.

Never even got close to 140. One thing goes wrong at those speeds and you're dead. Not worth it.

Only done it twice. I hit 145 in the Trans am, it started to float a little so I backed off. I topped out the '05 GTO that I had, it was governed at 157. I've only done about 130 in the Vette, I'm waiting until I go back home(on the right road) to see how fast I want to go in that one.

I did ~155 in my 97 Z28, 5th gear rev limiter (160+?) in my 1st SS, 171 on my 600RR, and another 5th gear limiter in my current SS. All runs were done on this (used to be) nice little country road with 4 lanes and a wide median that had a nice 1.75 mi. straight and nothing but fields on either side, it USED to be a perfect testing ground but the area has since grown so ill have to hold off till i find another road...

WOW!! How in the heck did you get away with that one?? Im in disbelief. I havent gotten out of a ticket in years. And I was only pulled over for 15 over.

I have been pulled over doing 120mph...ish...but that was on the freeway (65 zone) That cop busted my balls. Didnt take my car, but gave me a hefty ticket.

Agree 100%, 110 is the fastest I've ever gone, and thats plenty, I know the car will go faster, but it aint worth the risks to experience it!

Yes they are higher in my car at 4500rpm.
Hell i am not even sure thats correct the RPM & Speed for an A4, it was just an idea.

I have never been over 140 on the street. The fastest I have ever gone on the street is around 130. That was in my young and foolish days.

Been pulled over doing 1405on the express way in a 65 zone... hefty ticket there x.x, but got out of it in the end... and is not on my record... Have done it a couple times though on way back from colleges really late at night or early in the am on dead open roads, but once I see cars in the distance I shut it down and don't go over 90 around them.

140+ was almost a daily ritual when I was 16 (in my old 75 Camaro). I'm getting lame in my old age of 23, probably only done it in my '00 SS 5 or 6 times. I'm extremely careful about it these days, usually on some abandoned highway at like 3am. I definitely couldn't live with hitting someone at those speeds.

I've done it once, but I think technically I was right AT 140 and not over. I would never normally do this, except that I ran into a brand new LS3 Vette on a long, straight, two-lane highway, guiderails on both sides, and NO ONE around. I had always heard that the Vettes really get moving once they get into triple digits and I didn't want to hear that from everyone if I let off at the top of fourth (around 120 or so), so I took it to the top of fifth and let off when my shift light came on, which is about 140.

He slowed my pull, but never stopped it. Me by a car and a half. :devil:

There is a stretch of highway between Hoover dam and AZ that I would do about 150 solid on.... Its like a 2 hour drive thru there and you can kill it out in about 1 if that...

So quite a bit..... LOL... hell we even had the wifes geo storm up around 140 for a good 50 miles... That was about 8 years ago

I do it daily going down the main street in town. Just keep the gas pedal pegged and flash your lights and blair your horn and they will move. If they don't (it happens alot for some reason) I just pull out some Fast and the Furious moves and keep on going.

Done it once with the wife, Ttops off and windows down. Went out to a spot with a bunch of friends to a waterfall and on the way we both noticed the long straight and flat road and talked about how it would be fun to go WOT with the car. On the way home coming on the road wife pulled out the camera and told me to hit it. Took it up to 147 or so (I remember checking to make sure I was in 5th gear three times when I shifted) and let off and just let it slow itself down in 6th. Was a good rush and all, but than when getting home and catching a glance of the bald tires I bought it with, realized we were lucky nothing bad happened...

Since then most I have taken it to is 120 when passing four cars or so on a long straight clear stretch. Getting over 100mph just gets me leary for some reason anymore. Too many animals that can jump out or something that can go wrong really fast...

i know the highway you are talking about, in 05 i even said to myself that its perfect for a high speed run. also highway 95 on the AZ side is about 50 miles of straight and sand.

Once when I was 17 in my 87 IROC 350 auto. It had plenty more but I was running up on a curve pretty fast so 140 was about it.

once in my old Z at 3am and not a soul in sight.

At least 8-9 times in the Auto Z. Starts getting floaty between 115-130 then settles down and feels planted above 135-165. Pegged the speedo++ a number of times.

In the SS i've only taken it up to 140-145 two times. It needs new shocks and upper shock mounts and maybe a re-balance. It starts shaking over 120mph. Once i get those things squared away i do plan on topping it out in the desert somewhere..... I know a few spots :secret2:

That comes out to be about 190mph on a stockish size tire.

When I was young and bullet proof, I tapped over a buck forty, twice. Both times were on a highway, with no one around. Wasn't a good idea then, looks even worse now.

Hit 135 maybe touched 140 just once (on the Interstate). Been to 120 on the street dozens of times though.

I think I did it about 15 times just last weekend....lol

I have gone 140+ more times than I can count on the street. Had a 98 V6 Camaro with the speed/odo plug undone and it took a while but would pull to 140 on the money according to tach readings and my math, 135 in an 1985 305-powered IROC Z (damn it was shaky), 01 Formula would go 155 until I put a converter and it would always try to unlock above 150. I tell ya whats fun, set your cruise @ 40mph and use the accel feature on the cruise control and pull to 140......guess that is an upside to living in a rural Texas area.

I love it too. Just make sure to be safe going that fast too. It would suck crashing going 150

3 times here... never again either. Everytime I go 6mph over the limit I get pulled over. So my luck is pretty bad... plus Im responsible enough now to realize how stupid it is and the risks involved. Im not down w/ 10-life for vehicular manslaughter because something accidently went wrong, I know too many people that died going that fast.... just my .02

prolly bout 3 times waste of gas to do it again. fastest was 165 i had just let off the gas and it got down to bout 150 and i (unwillingly, it was at night) drove over one remaining patch of ice :eek2: ... good thing there wasn't any power to the wheels or there would be free camaro parts spread over a mile of blacktop.

in the vette-maybe twice and im 35. ive had crotch rockets since i was 16. so... i been over 140 countless times on my bikes over the years. i hit 190 on a modded zx-11. of course with speedo error- it was probably 180:D

its been at least two months since i have done it..... but too many to count. well over 15 in car and on bike..... i would say the five years i lived in OK i hit 160 speed limiter at least once a week. but i dont have that speed limiter problem any more:D

once or twice when I was younger and stupid... I've matured alot since then ... now that my car is basically straight line only, I don't speed much on public roads. (back when it had stock suspension, sway bar, and full size tires all around, I took it to 170 once... but again, that was when I was a stupid kid)

1 time, about 5 years ago in my old T/A a 96 A4. Got a straight couple miles of freshly paved freeway they just opened up at 3am. Pegged the speedo at 155 but I know I was going faster probly about 160. It was pretty scary, everything was just a blur and I knew if I hit a bump I was done for. It was fun to try, but not something thats worth risking again lol.

I've only gotten my GT up to 115. I-77 around here just has too many curves, and very few straight stretches.

I had the S2000 up to 142, and the old Mustang up to 140.

Pushed it past the 155 max on the speedo a few times, hit the peg once. Guessing around 165,170 tops. Scary as hell but exhilarating :D

pegged the speedo on my bike (150) but with the error, probably no more than 135-140.

Lots of times. I used to go visit friends on the weekend, then see how quick I could get home, 52 miles away. My record was 28 minutes. I had my Olds up to 148 when it had stock suspension. With the lowered suspension, it did 151. That was on knock off wire wheels! Dumb, dumb, kid stuff. I had a new engine built with plans of 170, but then my friend's little brother died in a car crash... Haven't done it since, that was nearly 4 years ago.

i hear gto's go 158, then you hit the soft limiter. i also hear that they need sus work and the front gets light at 130+. if i was ever to go this fast i would do it in the middle of no where and make sure there werent any other cars around, so if i did wreck i would only hurt myself.

Once, and it scared the shit out of me, all that whistling and vibrating, I thought it was about to explode. Only reason I did it was because it was 3:30am on a Tuesday night on an almost deserted road.

Been 115 with the top down so far. I don't speed much at night, I don't have the far eyesight like I do in the day.

Probably once in my old LT1 Z28 on the expressway. I had to give myself A LOT of room to slow down for the cars up ahead.

I had it pretty far up there the other day on Beltway 8, I never looked down but I was moving pretty damn good. What I have noticed is that it's alot less scarier when your not going WOT and just gradually working up.. Whenever I WOT up the gears the car is all over the road(tie rods). But when I don't go all out the car feels alot more stable at 130+..

150+ to many times to count. 130+ at least one a week. its all personal choice.

I own a sport bike now. Triple digit speeds come by very fast and feel pretty slow. So I would say a lot. Only during the day, I think you guys that do high speed driving at night are morons. And only on deserted flat country roads 10+ miles from a big city. And only when I have gear on.

Bad news is that my belt came off in the process and I almost overheated. Looks like the reservoir blew up and theres coolant everywhere. Had to get it towed home. :(

once few months back I put the Cobalt SS up to 140, lift started getting bad around 130, would have gone much faster if not for traffic. I've only had my Trans Am up to 110 or so, theres so much road noise it sounds like its going to fall apart

I've had my 95z up to 120-130 numerous times but only over 140 one time. i think i shut it down at 145 or so it was enough for me at that point, i cant imagine doing 160+.

I hit 120-130 alot, almost everytime i'm on an expressway, it doesn't take much to go from 65 to 120. 140+ i've only done twice, highest was 142 and I ran out of room due to traffic :)

If I was at 120 in my cousin's camery I can imagine its pretty easy to do in a LS1 car.

A couple times. One time was catching up to a bunch of F-bodies on our way to Shenandoah Natl. park. Another time was trying to pass a crotch rocket with the guy's GF holding on and kept speed ng up to match me...once I saw her I thought how stupid that guy was and shut down. Looking forward to the Mojave Mile :D

If I was at 120 in my cousin's camery I can imagine its pretty easy to do in a LS1 car.

It is... my mom has a 6spd LS1 Vette, and I know I could get to 150mph quick easily. In the same time I could get to 120mph in my S2000 I'm sure.

I've been up to 140 MPH once when I topped out my NA SOHC Porsche 944 I think it went 142 MPH. When I had a 1000RR I took it up to 135 MPH from Glenn to Willows which is about 10 miles. IDK what I was thinking, my buddy and I though it would be a good idea so we did it. He had a GSXR 600. I haven't made any high speed runs with my WS.6 yet, the highest I've got it to was probably 105-110 MPH. That was back when my suspension was stock.

I was close to 140 in my old 88GTA racing a corvette, Open highway with no traffic around. One thing to keep in mind is the condition and speed rating of your tires and inflation at high speeds. If you have a tire fail at over 100mph its going to get very nasty in one hell of a hurry. Most tires need MORE air in them to run at high speeds. Look at your tire manufactuers site for the info.

I have in my Trans Am I don't know how many times. Definitely over 15 though. I have twice in my Camaro. I did it at least 10 times between my two SRT-4s, and now twice in my newest addition, my '01 Subaru RSTi.

too many, I went from the canadian border to the MA-NH border going 140 the whole way once except to get off for gas. fastest I went was 5700rpm in 5th, stock gears & tires comes out to 172, so 165+ anyways. after getting caught for 145+ in a 55 and dishing out $1700 I'll prolly never do it again tho thats for sure.

i topped out my 85 z28 a couple of times. always when the highway was completely clear of people. taking into the account the stock t-5. stock 2.73 rear end. and 500ish hp 350 top speed was roughly 185. it gets pretty scary up above 160ish. but i got pulled over doing 165 in a 65 about 2 years ago and i'm STILL paying for it. so it's mellowed me out a lot. not to say i didn't deserve it. there is a time and a place. same stretch every day i had a 92 bmw 325i that loved the 150 range. and a 92 acura legend 6 speed that loved the 140 range as well. good times.
