has it been tested? and if so behind what? there is alaways interest in a stronger part but it has to be proven to work

If it works it would be the biggest step in a 60e period

ok......

good feedback, this is what i am looking for.

way i am looking at it is:

if this piece takes care of the stock drum issues and no "other" weak links pop up (within reason) then this part will be a good seller.

I would be curious. What are you making it out of? What it the estimated cost? Is this just an idea or have you done some prototyping? Will it use the stock pistons and clutches?

It's a lot of questions, but hopefully you an answer a few.

Chris

will use all stock parts.

yes we are working on the prototyping as we speak.

if this design works it"ll allow the price target to be low enough for the average 600-900 hp guy to purchase.......

my idea was to have a larger 3rd piston and a stronger 3-4 snap ring ligs to take the extra apply of the larger piston

My bigest concerns are the snap ring area and the center, As the sleeve may help a little, Its syill a very week area. I have seen not the splines strip out on a few ocasions but the entire center break out with the sleeve and all in tack of a hard launch and at present theres not a fix for that, The entire drum is inherently weak when you get above a certain power levl particulary with guys who have alot down low, So if you can address this issue you may have a customer here.

If you fix the drum the next problem will be geartrain on the other end.

I tend to agree that the drum sux ***. The fast is that the geartrain will fial if the drum holds up. The 4l70e drum is upgraded but the geartrain still fails. After all is siad and done it would be easier to redesign the gear train and apply components and it would be more effective.

Nick Y, I have the Mikronited and hardened 65 style input and the hardened drum with the sleeve and early piston that has been modified to fit the sleeve. So far 670HP,(at crank), 4000 stall with 4100lb car. No breakage for 2 years of hard use. I've been testing on my own ride as I won't sell a customer junk until it's perfected. I have a shop in Michigan and would be very interested for input and sales of a drum that could withstand 800-900HP range. I feel the 5 pinion GM planets will hold this range for a few years of beating. Would you use 7075 billet or 6061 billet? Or would you make it 1 piece of moly like DTT did with the 47-48RE diesel tranny's. It costs around $900.00. The diesel guys love 'em. Mass produced, the price should be reasonable.

GM Motorsports made some (12) back in 1990-93 out of steel that we tested in Off-Road ,Baja races, they worked well but the $2500.00 per unit cost made the TH400 or 4l80-e still a better choice and stronger unit
The fluid flow paths are the real issue with this transmission.

Listen ,the original material GM used is adequate .I have the original drawings if anyone has further questions as to the type.I believe a good understanding of how the trans works shows the use of 1 planet for first gear gives excessive rpms due to too much ratio.Remember the front planet is simply overdriven in 2nd and 4th to give the resultant ratios. Our planet will significantly improve durability in the trans .Remeber the 3/4 clutch pack is used to "ground out" if you will, the front planet on a 2/3 ratio change. This is not the cure but a LEAP not a jump in the right direction.

The word is that its supposed to have more strength and a heat treated input shaft.

Personally I think the whole 4l60 thing is beat to death. It is alot like the 2004r. You can put all the pretty stuff you want on a pig but its still a pig.
