Default 406 550-600fwhp???/

Hey guys. I'm building a 406 after all the discussion of stroking it out even more. I'm wanting to keep this thing fairly streetable but not to concerned about gas mileage. Looking for 550-600fwhp. The heads flow well over 300 at .600, I dont have the flow sheets in front of me so i cant be exact. i'm looking for a cam that would make this power using a hydraulic roller setup not solid. also the compression will be 10.5 to 1.

It is possible but you will have to have a huge bump stick and a huge stall, bump the comression to the 93 octane limit of 11 to 1 if you have aluminum heads, you need good lifters so they dont fade under high RPM, shouldnt be a problem.

What LSA? I am praying my 112 LSA wont cause detonation in my build, it is aluminum with polished chambers i think ill be ok.

I cant say much about it with the hydraulic roller but my 406 made 514rwhp 564rwtq with the setup in sig. Alot of it has to do with the weight/prep of the internals on my motor but there are other ways to get there without the huge cam. Talk to a engine builder that you can trust they will help you alot. BTW mines right a 10:1 and runs very nicely on 93oct with very good street manners on 3000 stall and 3.42's.

So, is there anything done to the pro toplines in your sig? I didnt think they werent that great.

What's the spec's on the cam if you dont mind me asking?

The head were completely worked over by Gene Fultons shop. (Fulton Race Engines) The cam is a Comp part # 12-940-9 its a 290/300 .645/.630 its not really a street cam but the guy that built my motor said it would put me in the power range i wanted so i went with it. Also the carb was really worked over so its nowhere a 670 street avenger it started off as. This motor was a joint build with 2 shops..Fulton Race Engines and Dyer Racing and they really knew what they were doing. The only bad thing i can say about it is that i should have done this setup with a 350 because it really likes higher rpm's.

With a 350 it would have liked even more RPM, id be glad you did 400. That is a problem with the 383 kina but they reccomended moving y operating RPM range to 4000-8000, i dont think i want a camthat size on the street at all, much less a solid roller as much as i drive.

350's just seem to hold together a little better at higher rpm's. The 400's are a little more fragile up there. The cam really isnt an issue. I dont drive it that much just because i have a DD and love cruising in the GN but it really does have great street manners. I do now that will probably be my last V8 i build for a toy. Since i recently switched my GN over to E85 i decided next project motor will be a turbo 4.3. Ive actually been considering selling my complete setup to start on this setup.

Well, a 350 has allot less rotating mass and a shorter stroke, it will of course respond beter to high revs.
