I have had some infinity 5x7 plates and a pair of 6x9 kenwoods in my past f bodies w/monsoon and noticed little improvement if any......the best thing i ever did was delete the rear hatch speakers all together. Add in a nice set of 8" subs in the sailpanels in place of the 6 1/2" and put a set of coax speakers in the front doors teamed with the factory tweeters it was crisp, clear and had much deeper tighter bass...

what brand 8's did you install? was it a pain in the ass? did you power the 8's with factory power? thats a cool idea. i might do that! i have a jl audio compnet set in my sails i might swap them to my doors and do 8's...let me know thanks!

I highly recommend not putting 8" sails in the sails. I have done this to my car and personally, I regret it. It's not that it doesn't sound good or work, but you can use a quality 6.5" like an M-6 or M-6+ CDT or something similar and get the same results if not better. Plus you don't have to cut out the sails like you would with the 8". I am about to redo the sails and put in CDT ES-06+'s there to give them a try.
Most just disconnect the rear hatch speakers. I am one of those people. If your other speakers are doing there job correctly then you won't be able to hear the hatch anyway.

I used some old kicker 8" my local shop had on closeout, i found it way easy to cut out the hole. And all of my passengers that have heard the stereo always ask what amp and subs I am running. They are shocked when i say the factory amp off some old kicker 8's stuck in the factory spot.It really seemed to hit deeper notes and was surprisingly "boomy". Its not everyones cup of tea, but it works for me.what brand 8's did you install? was it a pain in the ass? did you power the 8's with factory power? thats a cool idea. i might do that! i have a jl audio compnet set in my sails i might swap them to my doors and do 8's...let me know thanks!

Yes you want it to be the same configuration and ohm load as the factory ones, or at least mine are.I believe mine are rated to 150-200 watts, which is way more than the factory monsoon is throwing at it. IMO opinion I got the sound I wanted, without having to buy amps, boxes, big subs,etc... that are heavy and take up trunk/ttops space. And add extra weight makes ya slower, every little bit counts :)

Delete rear speakers. They are pointless... but very noticeable from the front

Heaven knows I'm not one to say "front soundstage only" but if you want hatch speakers, they really should be used only for rear fill - not as a primary sound source. Why not replace the blown hatch speakers with some inexpensive 4" ones that will fit without modification? Kee Audio can set you up with some.

Yea, if i can do it all over again, id just put oem size speakers and spend the time and money on the other speakers...

i thought about cuttin some 6x9s in there too but i cant imagine them sounding good at all. I would think the imaging would be horrible and theres really no need for speakers in that hatch.
