I've been searching but haven't found any data on the new 6speed automatic trans. I WILL be modifying my G8 shortly after I buy one and wanted to know how much horespower the automatic trans will hold without failure vs. the manual transmission? Is it too soon to tell or does anyone have any data on HP limits? I am curious about the rear end as well. I will probably turbocharge it looking for around 600rwhp. I want to know if the auto or manual is stronger in the stock configuration and how much the rear will handle as well.
Thanks

There is a guy on the corvette section that made over 150 passes down the track with his well modded c6 before it went. I'm not sure if this is the norm but dang that's alot of passes! :D

Here's something for you to chew on: The Commodore VXR8 (Ausie G8) manual transmission will bolt right in to the new G8s. To your question, though, 600rwhp on a completely stock vehicle is asking a bit much.. the furthest I would push the tranny and rear end components would be about 520.

So is the new automatic strong or are there going to be problems when the HP increases? Would the Manual be stronger?

Manual transmissions, by default, can handle more power, because there's less lost at the flywheel. For the Automatics, I imagine there will be a shift kit soon, (So it shifts harder in D\Sport Shift), but like I already said, I don't think it'll handle 600rwhp for an extended amount of time.

I can always turn down the boost to make the trans last. How does the new automatic compare to the 4L60e and 4L80e in stock strength? This car would be a DD for my wife. She wants an automatic so I need to justify why we need a stick. LOL
Thanks for the responses.

I would just go with a Magnacharger on stock boost and be done with it.

Is that what you're going to do with yours?

Here's a question. Will the 6.0 Magnachargers for the 06 GTO's work on the G8? Or are we waiting for a G8-specific setup?

I am waiting to see how each of the FI vendors products turn out right now, but the Magnacharger setup will probably be the most reliable and will have the most power under the curve. These cars are pigs, having a lot of torque down low will be more beneficial than huge HP numbers up top.

The GTO has LS2 heads so the Magnacharger setup for it will not work. Magnacharger has already finished mocking their kit up for the G8 with the MP1900 supercharger so it shouldn't be too long before it hits the market :D

I've been reading that. Looks like a nice kit.

keep your stock rpm redline and your trans will last longer. though yes 600 rwhp is probly to much but i bet 450-470 rwhp on the stock tran/rear will last a while as long as you do not go past the RPM ratings

What kind of power will the help put out?

Is the 6L80E as strong as the 4L80E or is it weaker like the 4L60E?
