Default Clutch Fluid Questions

My Textralia z grip will be here this week. My question is what fluids should i use?

For the Master, i will need a lot. that fluid is darker than night So should i use DOT III or DOT IV brake fluid? also what brand and how many bottles?

Now as for transmission fluid, Should i use regual DEX III ATF fluid? Or go with mobil 1 or something

Dot 3 is what GM recommends. Dot IV is fine as well. I usually get one with the highest wet boiling point. I believe Valvoline Synthetic is what I use now. One bottle is more than enough to fill the master cylinder but you'll probably have to change it a few time til its clear.

As for ATF, anything Dexron III compatible. I was told synthetics are not good for the T-56 but I could be wrong.

I run Valvoline synthetic brake fluid as well, seems to work fine. Sixspeedsinc recommends Moble 1 ATF in the tranny.

I forgot about the boling point, thanks, i will remember to get the one with the highe boiling point. I hope one bottle will be enough, but i will spend the extra $$$$ for the fluid to be crystal clear.

I hard that syn tranny fluid is bad too.

I use Valvoline Synthetic (dot 4) for the clutch and Mobil 1 ATF in the transmission, per Six Speeds Inc.

I get my syringes from Bed Bath & Beyond...they call them flavor injectors. I call them brake fluid extractors. Just snip the end off of the black plastic tip, and presto.

Why not just bleed all the fluid out through the bleeder?! It'll flush the lines while it's at it, then bleed through the new fluid until it's clear!

You're only going to turkey baster out what's in the reservoir anyway .

I'm sorry i should have made it cleare.. When i am installing the new clutch, yes i will bleed out all the old fluid thru the bleeder screw. What i needed the syringe for was to check the fluid periodically and siphon out the old fluid and replacing with new fluid

I use a synthetic DOT3 in the clutch and Mobil 1 ATF in the trans. Never had any issues with either.

As for emptying the reservoir, I just use my mityvac and then refill it.

On the trans fluid Mobil 1 ATF or Redline D4 ATF which ever you can find first. Both are going to be excellent and both will do the same as far as viscosity.

Thanks,

I have always heard the term mityvac, but what is it and where can you get one?

Mobil 1 ATF in the tranny.

I went to autozone and they had a siphon pump with a hose for $.99 thats what i used to empty my fluid reservior. took me like 3 seconds. really easy and cheap.

Wonder why they recommended the cheapest brake fluid you can find? i was always told to get one with a higher boiling point.

Maybe because they take for granted that you will change/flush it VERY frequently?? IF so, then they are 100% correct.
IF you don't plan on that, I would get something even better than the Valvoline stuff, with an even higher wet point (i.e.; Neo 610, Motul RBF 600, Wilwood 600, Ate Super Blue/Type 200 <-- BEST 'bang for the buck', or the ultimate, crazy exorbibtant $$$$ Castrol SRF{IF you can afford it!!!}).

I am really suprised that Amber suggested Red Line D4 for the T56!!
I know they've always stated that Mobil 1 is 100% OK in ALL T56es, but is everyone sure that they were not implying that D4 is good to go ONLY in their rebuilds, and NOT in the stockers???
