Default pat g, predator z, i could use some insight...

ok im putting my new motor together. cam was supposed to be a 247/ 254 .623/ .623 114+4. new comp lsl lobes. well when i degreed it the centerline was at 114.5. so it seems as though the advance wasnt ground in. but yet it says it was on the card. so i advanced it 4 degrees on the chain. centerline was 110.5. well tonight i measured ptv and im getting right around 50 on the intake and 105 on the exhaust. is this going to be safe or do i need to bring that bitch back to 0 or maybe even 2 advance?

motor specs are 10cc dish manley pistons
tfs 215 milled to 60cc (same as stock valve clearance)
stock gm ls3 gaskets which i believe are right around 60.

anything else i left out let me know and ill get you an answer.

I wouldn't run less than .080" on the intake PTV. I would back it up, JMO

that is useful. looks like i would need to run it atleast straight up. now am i going to lose a similar amount on the exhaust side when i pull it back?

because a race motor has been 100% blue printed. Geometry is perfect, it is not subject to the variables of street driving, it doesn't idle for long periods, it doesn't build carbon on pistons, it is not run with any reliability in mind, it is uilt to be on the edge.

gotcha. so when i put this back to 0 am i then going to loose a similar amount of ptv on the exhaust side that i will gain on the intake side?

yes it is a trade off the cam is already cut and cant change....just adjusted so whatever you gain on the intake side the lose on the exhaust...

not sure with is better to be less .080 on intake or .100 exhaust...i would probably say cheat more on the intake because the valve is chasing the piston...instead of the exhaust where the piston is chasing the valve...(more prone to valve float being on the backside of the lobe too...) just a guess though...

well put it at 0 tonight and was kind of suprised by the results. i picked up a big chunk on the intake and barely lost any on the exhaust. ended up at 75 on the intake and 95 on the exhaust.
