Saying hello from Nebraska
So I have been driving a 1999 Firebird 3.8L for the past 4 years. The whole time I always thought to myself "Man, I wish I had the V8!" I used to get pretty sick and tired of pulling up to red lights and have a Mustang GT, or Camaro Z-28 pull up and to know that that my car was inferior.
But then a great thing happened to me. Uncle Sam thought it would be an awesome idea to send me to Iraq for a second time for 15 months. The whole time I was deployed, I kept telling myself that I was going to by a nice car when I got back. Well, I did finally come home 3 weeks ago and immediantly started searching for my dream car.
I found that car last week on autotrader. A beautiful NBM 2001 Camaro SS with only 35,000 miles and the price was great. After an incredibly long weekend, I went to the dealership this morning to buy the car. After an intense bidding session with another guy that wanted the car, I finally prevailed in winning the bid. After that I cut the salesman a check and drove the new SS home.
I have spent the rest of the day trying to drive the car. It has the M6 and I have only driven a manual a total of like 2 times in my life. I was getting the hang of it towards the end of the night, but starting from a stop is still a little difficult.
To sum this all up, all I can say is WOW!!!! This is the fastest car I have ever been in. It's like a night and day difference between this and my Firebird. I have been smiling from ear to ear all day long, and I know I will continue to do so whenever I get into this beast of a machine.
I look forward to learning alot of information from this site, interacting with all the other members, and building up my car. Thanks for a great site!
Daniel
Oh yeah, my digital camera broke while in the desert, but will try to get pics up soon

Welcome. I'm fellow Husker fan from Omaha. There are a lot of F-body guys from Omaha Lincoln trolling around here.
Nice snag on the Camaro. I agree, you've definately earned it. What you dont realize yet is what you have really gotten yourself into. My advice is to stay far away from this site and keep your credit cards / checkbook far away from your computer at all times. Internet shops selling shiny hotrod parts..... it's a dangerous thing!

Hey guys. I am from around the Norfolk area which is about 1 1/2 hours from both Omaha and Lincoln. I am only in Nebraska for about another 3 weeks before I go back to my base in Georgia.
I have put about 1,000 miles on the car already and I still smile every time I start her up. I have gotten good at shifting the M6 (I had a little bit of trouble right away).
As far as the modding goes, I can already feel it coming. I have made a nice little wish list of parts I would like to get for the car.

miller456, I will be in Nebraska till May 13th, then I will be heading back to Ft. Stewart in lower Georgia. I am about 30 minutes from Norfolk ( my town only has 700 people so thats why I say I am from around Norfolk). Definantly, PM me when you come up this way. Later
