I won't have a tuner yet to change the speedo. Does anyone know what my speedo will read at 55 or 70? Or do I need to go by the tach.I won't be doing it long,I'm going to get a tuner or would it be cheaper to find a place that can just calibrate my speedo?

Just got mine done and the GM 3.73 threw my speedo off by 6 mph. At 51mph I'm actually going 45. I think at about 70 I am around 2600-2700 rpms.

Oh ya by the way, You are gonna love your shi* with them gears!

Thanks man..so that means if I'm doing 70,I might really be at 64 or 66..I wonder if the faster you go the more off it is.. I got motive performance gears.. What did you have before? 2:73's?

Can't really say if yours will be like mine, but yes mine would be at that without a tune. It's def gonna throw your speedo off by a few mph. The brand of gear won't determine where you will be at..I did notice I can hear my gears workin now. I hear that the Motives are a little louder then the GM's. Don't know for sure though. I had 3.23 before.

thats what other have said....it was dead on when i switched from 3.42 to 4.10s in my M6. Just my experience. I dont know if it has anything to do with the difference between the M6 and A4...just an idea.

Never know. It was off for me by a cpl to few hundred rpm's at certain speeds/gear

That was pretty funny.. :D I hope so..I can't even spin the tires with 2:73's..but it might be traction control,I haven't tried to hard..But if I punch it from the start it just takes off,but doesn't really pull til about 40..Its a monster on the hwy tho :rotflmao: This is what I'm doing right now thinking of the 3:73's

I don't drive alot of hwy and I haven't done anything to the car yet.I will only do exhaust, gears, shift kit,tune..

Just curious. Hwy driving sucks up a lot of gas now w/ them gears. Let us know what you think of them!

I dont think the chart allows for any torque converter slip. It is more accurate with an M6.

Mine was off 18-20 mph from 2.73's to 3.73's with speeds of 60-90, and speeds below 60 it seemed to be off 10-15 mph. After it showed 90, it would be even more off. I hit the governor after I broke the gears in (200 real miles, OD showed more since it was off) and it hit as soon as I got to the end of 3rd (112 mph). So at 158-160 or whatever my governor is, it's off by that much at the higher speeds.

By what your sayin it doesnt sound like you got your speedo reprogrammed. The chart shows what you are actually running if your speedometer has been calibrated correctly. Swapping gears will not change your speedo so of course the chart wont be right....who knows maybe i misunderstood something

Well I have an a4, so there will be converter slippage. That site from what I've read is 99.9% accurate with m6's, but with a4's its different since you can't account for the slippage. My speedo is calibrated though, I've tested it at many different speeds.

Yes,he was saying it wasn't reprogrammed.. The gears are going to be in tomorrow..And as 02 Silva said..It should be a thrill,I can't wait..Why is everyone squawking about a stall? Not you guys, but in another thread..What would be gained by one ..I don't have the need to launch my car..If that's all its good for ,why have one?

MattIROC

What do you mean by reprogrammed?

Your rpms won't drop as much keeping you better in the power band. Some say do a stall before gears, others say the opposite. If I could do both at once, I would. But, the stall is more costly, well worth it as long as you choose something decent.

If your main purpose is to drive your car around town and not do much racing then really no need for one. Do a search on one and read up:D

Thanks guys..I did a search last night and read up on it..I don't think I need a stall.

I happened to come across a good deal on a stall so did that first. It made a night and day diff. I still have my 2.73s and have been looking into 3.73s as well since im also checking out cams, so your results should be more interesting to me.

I had to drive mine for a bit with untuned gears. I made a spreadsheet that that you input the old gear ratio and the new ratio. It spits out the speed the spedo reads vs your actual speed. and you can print it and cut out the table and tape it to the dash or whatever so you can reference what the spedo says to know your actual speed. It worked great for me during the couple weeks I had to drive untuned.
