Hey all,
Well I've researched a TH400 swap till my eyes hurt. I am thinking of doing the swap soon. I just wanted to hear how people liked/disliked their conversion. My goal with the car is a "badass street/strip car". It will be getting a procharger d1sc, 9", all supporting mods. Looking to make in the 700-800 rwhp range. Reason for the swap is I don't want to be messing with clutches with that much power. So let me hear your post-swap results.

The other option is a 4L80, trans brake, RMVB

Like i said before... you will hate the th400 on the street... i swapped mine instead of my 6 speed and im goin back....

4L80E will be the most streetable choice...
TH400 will be great if you car is heavy on the strip side of street/strip..

I can understand the swap to the Auto. I did an M6 swap and I am back to an auto. Not worth the hassle of clutches etc in my opinion.

It's all about proper gearing and tire selection. A th400 is just fine if you have stockish gears or if you have an exstra set of tall tires for your hwy commute. If you know you're going to be driving on the hwy, put some tall tires on there and it'll lower the rpms greatly. The th400 will definitely be faster. No question though, the best all around performance/commuting transmission would be the 4l80e. Very strong and has overdrive to boot

My daily commute isn't a concern because I have a company truck. I drive the car 2-3 times a week

Also, I forgot to mention. If you have 800rwhp, you probably won't have super short gearing anyway...

Do it.I switched over the winter and took 1.5 sec. off my time.The car can still be driven on the street but not as much fun as the 6 speed was.

If thats the case then save the money an 80E will cost you and go with the TH400.
The only time I would advise against the TH400 is if your going to drive your car alot, if you do it can get annoying.
I swapped from a 60E/stock 10 bolt to a TH400/Strange 12 bolt and shaved 4 tenths off my ET.

I think I am going to hold off on the whole auto swap until the car becomes a drag car. Right now I don't have the money to convert it so I am going to put a crutch on the T56 and work with that for now.

Kinda bringing this thread back, but I'm just curious as to how that is possible? I did the swap a while back and my car got slower. ( I went to 28" tires as well which messed wit hthe gearing though )
