stock 91 zr1 vs 04 gto afr205 heads. stock cam. stock stall. ls6 intake. cai.

I think the zr1 would win. what do you guys think?

I dont know why he did it, but if i broke a valve or a rocker or something, i'd see it as a chance to upgrade.
I have a ACE Level 2 4L60E, but all i have done is an intake and exhaust. If i had a problem with my head/s i'd upgrade those too

ZR1s were high 12s with a good driver, but typically trapped higher than LS1 Corvettes... they're pretty damn stout on topend. I say it's a toss-up from a dig, and give the advantage to the Vette from a roll.

i seen a zr1 with ported heads,cams, TB, ported plenum. beat a viper so i would imagine it would take him no problem..

Since GTO's are a major pain in the ass to launch the GTO driver will actually have to be the better driver. I own a GTO and have test driven a 90 ZR1 with 16,000 miles. I would still have bought the ZR1 had I had the cash...

Negative ghost rider, they were rated 375 at the crank. Most were underrated meaning about 400 (still at the crank) which is going to be about 340rwhp or so. (And thats giving 18 year old tranny tech the benefit of the doubt....) The goat with the heads and a good tune will easily make more than that.

Hell stock LS1's in GTO's are making 310-330 after a dyno tune only.

ZR1 especially at higher rpm's

Owned a ZR-1, drove an '04 GTO. The Goat felt like a heavy pig though I don't know what it would do w/ those heads.

I'd say ZR-1 but probably not by a ton.

The Vettes in the pic above look like Callaways, not ZR1's. I don't think the ZR1's had that funny bumper (could be wrong).

Also, you obviously have to look at more than just power output. The ZR1 is alot lighter. Also, I don't think too many automatic 04 GTO's are making 330 with just a dyno tune. I'd say that with heads and a tune but nothing else than your probably looking at 330-350 rwhp through the auto. I'd think it would need at least 370 to hang with the ZR1. Obviously the best bet for the Goat is to run from a dig.

Big freakin whoop if they are 13 second wonders. My stock goat ran a 13.3 with a 2.1 60' at 106mph on street tires just like the guy in that vid. My catback is a sound mod and if anything takes hp away from my car, ditto for the hot air intake.... With a GOOD driver and some traction that car should be in the high 12.9s just like my and many other goats similar to mine.

And its known as an LT5 made by mercury marine but designed by Lotus with a redline of 7200rpm. It had a valet key to switch btwn 200hp and 375 hp output and had 16 fuel injectors on the 16 runners that fed the 16 intake valves. At idle they all lope heavily. The LT5 was an absolute miracle of God considering the era when it was produced.... Too bad GM didnt stick with the DOHC approach.

But again drivers race and most vette owners on the street that I've run into cant drive themselves out of a cardboard box.

X2 Those are Callaways, not ZR1's. If it was a Callaway against the goat........HELL.....the GTO doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence! It would take a very stout car to be in that league. No offense to any GTO drivers. Just saying that if it were a sledgehammer......
I think the vette will take it. It would be ugly if they were going from a roll. I'd say go from a dig for a good race.

My vote is ZR-1 stock vs. stock. I don't think any ZR1s had published trap speed below 109mph. That would be tops for a GTO on a good day.

at a dyno day a stock internal bolt on zr1 put down around 400rwhp. not sure on the mods but it was surprising

If I remember correctly, the last motor was built in '93 and crated for the remaining years. The '93-'95s were rated at 405hp.

Ligenfelter, RIP, worked magic on those cars.

There is NO doubt the ZR1 would win, assuming equal drivers.

From a dig its a drivers race, from a roll the ZR1 would creep away from it.

From what I remember ZR1's could hit 180+ mph. Stock for stock the Vette should win with equal drivers (dig or roll).

I pull bolt on gtos with 350rwhp in my T/A almost every weekend and against my uncles ZR-1 with exhaust he usually gets me 1-2 cars, so i would say ZR1. These are roll races

What exactly constitutes fully loaded in an 04 GTO? Did they really come with any options other than color and auto vs manual?
