Ok, just finished building a nice spicy 6L for my truck and I'm going to have it dyno'd here locally on an engine dyno before installing it. I am running the PAC 1218 beehive valve springs and was told I should break them in since they're delicate before romping on the motor. How the hell can I obtain this? So who's right and who's wrong? I really would prefer an engine dyno over the chassis dyno incase there's an issue I don't have to yank the motor out of the truck again. Should I just romp on it or put the damn thing in the truck and baby it?

I don't think there is much of a break in period anymore for valvesprings...it may have been true in the past though.

If it were me, I'd just make sure the oil was up to operating temps, and go for it. If you want to be safe, just run a few heat cycles with them with no WOT runs. The biggest thing will be to always make sure the oil has fully heated up to operating temps (not just the coolant).

I would do at least one heat cycle. Like said above that means bringing the oil up to temperature and then letting it cool off.

Well for the valve springs.. you can let it rip. But I'm sure you'll still have to let it warm up anyway for the rest of the motor.

I'd agree, let them get to operating temp before beating on them....that's a good habit to get into anyway!

There isn't much of a breakin. On 1st start let tne motor get up to operating temp. and let it run for about 10 min. Let it cool down and then do the same again. let it cool down and check to make sure none of them are broken and retorque your rockers 22 ft. lb. On your 3rd start warm up and beat the **** out of them. lol
