Default MP-70 or Borg Warner S400-72?

I was just wondering what turbo has better quality and will suit my needs better. This is for a front mount turbo on a stock bottom end ls1. Only looking for like 450 rwhp. Both of the turbos are very similiar in cost(600ish bucks). What of the two would you guys choose? Thanks.

If you only want 450rwhp, check the parts for sale section. A T60-1 from an STS kit that has been upgraded would fit the bill nicely. A lot of times good deals can be had from what would otherwise be "throw away" parts.

I might do that. But is there anyone else with some input?

MPT70 will easily get you there and then some at only 8psi. Ive done it several times and have seen good results. Its not AS bad of a turbo as people make it out to be. Seems like half of everyone thinks they're okay for a budget setup and the other half have problems and think they suck. They're okay if you're looking for 500hp. Now if you want more, obviously EVERYTHING changes, first off being that you need new piston/rods to handle the power and a nicer, more efficient turbo. Hope this helps.

OH and ps-i think that borg warner will be wayy too laggy and will be too much for what you want. The MPt70 will probably spool beter and make a decent amount of power but most importantly will be ALOT easier to package into the car. Its tiny compared to the S400...MPt70 or any other suitable T4 turbo for that matter is around 20lbs with a nice 3" downpipe while the S400 is around 55lbs with a frikkin FIVE inch big rig downpipe

just make sure you get a mpt70 unit from a semi decent turbo place that can help you in case you do have a problem with it. You can even tell 'em to upgrade the internals(wheel) to a Q-trim so its comes into boost harder and stronger while having better components which last longer...like a buddy of mine did. good luck with it you're gonna like it

i've had a Master Power T70 on my car for over 2 years. works great and has seen LOTS of 20+psi passes and low 10 second times. I wouldn't call it a "budget" turbo at all, just a reasonably priced one. in fact for my combo i'll be adding another T70

20 psi, that is some big boost. As far as getting it with the Q-trim, how much more money is that?

Get the smaller turbo unless you want to relocate everything in your car. The S400 is about 3 times the size of the MP70

i sold a mp t70 powered 98 ss i had a couple of months ago, he took it to the track last night and went a 7.12 @ 99 mph with a 1.62 60ft.......thats on 7-8 psi and black smoke ROLLLLING from the car at about 3500lbs i would guess...and no intercooler......275/40/17 mt drag radials

the car ran damn good when i had it...i think there is proballly alot more left in the car for sure.......

this was a super budget setup too, he used the exhaust system off a 2500hd and chopped it up for the bends out of it.....its stainless though...lol..... CAR HAS ALMOST NO LAG
