Default New torque converter install possibly ruined idle...

So I just had a new TCI SSF 3500 converter installed along with a BBK intake manifold. The car runs great once warm, and pulls much harder then before the install. There is a little surgeing here and there but the car never dies at lights or anything.

The issue lies with COLD starts, in the morning when I go to start the car it will either have very bad surging or just die. But if I give it a little bit of gas to hold it around 1k rpm for say 10 seconds or so the car will begin to idle like normal.

I tried adjusting the screw on the throttle body which did help a little but it keeps throwing an error code "unexpected higher idle speed" or something close to that.

Did something go wrong with the install? or do I just need a tune?

Could an unbalanced converter cause this? I noticed a little shakeing between 1-2k rpm but it's probably just the exhaust, cause everything smooths out past that.

Will the tuner know what needs to be done when I explain the situation to him. Or is there something I need to tell him to change?

I think I found the source of the problem there is a hose that goes into the side of the intake manifold that was just slid on and didn't have a clamp or anything holding it on. I noticed that it came on and off very easy and would cause the engine to surge so I used a worm clamp to hold it on there tight and now i'm waiting for the engine to get cold to see if this fixes it.

Yes, the lower "flywheel" mass of the small converter
does not hide the crappiness of the idle tune as well
as before. So it (tune) needs to be tighter.

I tuned what I could with my hypertech power programmer III which isn't much just the shift points, and shift firmness since I don't have a shift kit. Both which helped somewhat. Converter locks up around 46mph which is ok for me. But the cold start in the mornings is getting annoying. It's just weird cause once it's warm it has never had any problems dying at stop lights or anything.

I have the same issue...at a stop light it will bounce between 500-1000 RPM while in gear, if I throw it in Neutral it is just fine. Every once and a while it will stumble real bad after sitting at a light for a long time...it also seems to happen more often when the engine is cold, I have a Vig. 3200 stall with the hypertech tuner as well see my sig. I just put some LT's with an ORY on while deleting the AIR and EGR as well and it has made everything worse almost to the point where it will stall out...So the overall opinion is that a tune will help both of us out???

Turns out the majority of my idle issues were caused by a vacuum leak that developed in the short 2-3" hose connecting the PCV valve to the throttle body. I still get a slight idle variation but not nearly as bad as before...I still need to get a tune to smooth that out...
