Retainers for Crane cams 99893 springs
Currently I have comp cams 978 dual valve springs. And I am having problems with them, they are 1.46 diameter spring. I am going to switch to the crane cams 99893 springs which are also 1.46 diameter springs. My question is can I reuse my current retainers, or do I also have to buy the crane cam retainers.
Thanks for any help

Re: Retainers for Crane cams 99893 springs
I would have to say no. The 978 Comp inner spring has a .116 smaller(.697) I.D. than the Crane(.803) spring you've selected. If you used the Comp retainers with the Crane springs(they will fit the Crane outer spring) the inner spring I.D. would be too large. They would wobble in the retainer then collide with the outer spring then bind and break. IMO it's always best to use springs/retainers from the same manufacturer. Hope this helps.
