Starting an online automotive part business?

I am just wondering how all the supporting vendors started out?

How did you go about getting accounts with manufacturers?

Maybe some LS1tech sponsors here could chime in and give me a few tips, as I am seriously researching how to go about getting something started. I was thinking in terms a website, forum sponsorships, as well as an ebay store as things progressed.

Thanks

Most likely you would have to "buy in" with any company to become a dealer.

Depending on the amount, I would have no problem doing that, I expect to do that. I have emailed companies before, asking about such opportunities, but have never received a response.

look for some auto parts wholesalers. my dad opened a speed shop and we got all our stuff from a couple of whoesale places. we only got a few parts from the manufacturer. pm me and i'll tell you a few names.

Get a business license and a tax ID number, and you're set. A few years ago, I wanted a 9", so I called Moser, there "buy-in" was only $2000. It was cheaper for me to buy in and become a distributor than it would have been to just buy my rearend. As long as the buy-ins are reasonable, it seems like a no-brainer, but some of the larger ones are big bucks (some are $10,000-$20,000 initial purchase).
