Loud noises when running A/C

whenever i use my a/c my motor makes loud noises, sounds horrid. any ideas?

AC compressor may be going out. Have you checked the belt on the compressor?

i agree, look for metal shavings around it too... my compressor clutch went and it made some rediculous noises, so i cut the belt to it.

i havent bothered replacing it yet since i live in buffalo and have ttops.
