Idea for the Site

Idea for the Site
I've been browsing some other forums lately (I admit, I'm on a few of various makes and models ) and one of them has a great section titled "Members' Journals".
The whole point of the section is for members to showcase their car/s in their own thread. They each have one thread per car that they're allowed to start and they basically make an initial post talking about the car and it's current condition, then update everyone as they mod, get new pictures, new track/dyno numbers, etc, etc, etc. It's a growing, living thread, if you will, and of course, anyone can comment, give advice, etc.
This section and the threads are extremely popular over at the other forum and I believe that it would make a VERY strong showing on LS1Tech where I know we are all in love with our cars (and OTHER people's cars in some cases ). I also know that many of us love reading about and keeping track of other members' cars.
I even went so far as to imagine that maybe it would be broken down into its own section on the site, with subsections for types of cars. See below:
Current example:
RACING DEPARTMENT
- Drag Racing Tech
- Drag Racing Results
- 12 Second Club
- Street Racing and Kill Stories
- etc
Example of Section Proposed:
MEMBER JOURNALS
- Camaro, Z28, SS
- Firebird, Formula, Trans Am
- GTO
- Corvette
- etc
Of course, this is just an example and would need some planning, but I just wanted to propose the idea. Of course, I'd be willing to help out and put some time into the planning if you guys needed any help. Let me know your thoughts.

And yes, I could make a post like this right now, but people would be more drawn to a section that is made for this and be a place to just check out each other's cars. I'm not saying it will definitely work, but I'm imagine it would, and very well. On various other forums, it's one of, if not the, most popular section on the site.
Who doesn't enjoy reading the progress of a car as it happens. Imagine the magazine articles that are multi-parts and go on for months at a time section by section as each round of mods gets done. What car guy doesn't love reading that and anticipate the next issue each month?
Definitely not the same thing; it's used differently and has a different purpose.

I think its a great a idea pewter. It would be a nice way to see how everyones ride is evolving and maybe it will help a lot to see how some people achieve their HP goals or the aesthetic goals and what it takes to do it. And you can see after what kind of times or kills you get with the ride you have.
Also, it will help when doing a search; you can remember similar cars to yours so its easier to find how to mod it.

And, I understand what you're saying, and I agree that you have a good idea. I don't really like going to those myspace-style car garages (no offense meant to to FQuick founders, etc.), but I do like the Mod's Rides and Sponsor's Rides section threads -- which is what you're proposing. I also love LS! Tech's user write-ups on installs, etc. Most of the time, user wirte-ups are better than anything I've seen in any mag, be it GMHTP or whatever. Users have practically unlimited space and time to/for updates, which mag's can't do.
To be clear, I'm not jumping on your bandwagon, just saying that I think it's a good idea. I was jut prepairing you for what I expect will be the reply.

120k members, so even if you get 10% participation you now have 12,000 threads of member's cars, if each member only had 1 car.
Then, 10% of those members sell those cars, and they're no longer owned, so 1200 threads now need to be archived. So, we need to code in a feature to mark threads archived and have them moved in to "members old rides" section. That feature is only useful IF the member is diligent with keeping up with their threads. With as many threads as we move every day already, I'd doubt that would happen on a regular basis. So, there is another function for the staff to undertake - thats cool, add a staff member or two.
BUT, why do ALL of that, when you have sites like FQuick? When you have a professional coded, purpose-built website for such things?
Bottom line - this has been discussed before and the decision was no. So, either you change the minds of the Administrators, or.....
