Question Looks like i need a clutch few q's first tho

so the other day i knew the clutch was going out because i heard a grinding noise when i would push the clutch peddle down. however i was on my way home and the pedal stuck down i could only push it about a inch till it was at the floor pan and it wouldn't come back up so i dog legged it home and halfway there the clutch started working fine. aside from the grinding noise of coarse. so i guess my question is why did the pedal stick also what clutch/flywheel should i go with as a replacement the car has mods and hp in sig

you think the master is causing the pedal to stick or is it just cause the clutch is old
