Default For all you high performance TH400 builders out there....

I recently had my th400 rebuilt that has a reverse manual v/b with a trans brake. A small stall 2500 or 3000 (don't remember) from precision industries. The reason for the rebuild was i lost all forward gears and only had reverse and also busted some kind of teeth off that hold a big locking ring in place inside the trans.

So.

I had it rebuilt with TCI "red" clutches and a higher stall than before. Also had to bring him another case to do the rebuild. 4000 precision industries. I used the same manual v/b with the t/b.

Now the trans temp will see 210 deg. when going 60mph on the road and was told by him that the temp isn't really that high.

Will i burn up my new trans with the temp that high?

Also called precision industries and i was told that the stall i have now they have never seen any complaints about high temp with that stall..... could there be something wrong inside the trans or is it just too high of a stall???

Any opinions would be helpful

Oh i do already have a b&m trans cooler with a fan and still runs 210 deg.

A few questions? Are you also runing through the radiator with the cooler?
And yes a 4000 stall without lockup will make alotta heat.
And no 210 degrees is not going to kill the trans bear in mind that from the factory the only cooler was the radiator. Generally with a 195 degree thermostat which means the trans even stock would have run around 210 degrees or more all the time and stock they lasted many many years. While I like temps to stal in the 200- range to keep the fluid looking nice. The temps really have to see the 250 + range consistently to start being of any immediate concern.

No.

The other stall only saw 160 deg.

But what was the other stall and stall speed . And different converters also have different characteristics. The trans itself don't actually make much heat by its own right unless its slipping and it would not do that long at all before it quit. But the thing to remember with a stall is this all energy not transferred to the rear wheels becomes heat.

So in other words there is nothing inside the trans that will make it hot but the high stall?

PERTY much thats it. The trans makes very little of its own heat comparatively and yes with that change in stall speed you would expect there to be considerably more heat

I have a TH400 with a RMVB, trans brake and a 4k stall. If it goes anywhere its driven and my tranny temps average 150. Thats with the sender tapped into the cast deep pan. I bypass the stock cooler and run a B&M hi tek.
