Default Exhaust pipe size

I need to order some pipe so I can start building my exhuast but I don't know what size I should run. I'm going to Y into a single exhaust/single muffler out the back. It's a street car, so I don't need it too obnoxious. I'm thinking 2.5" off the headers into dual cats y'ed into a single 3" out to a muffler.

Have you test fit those headers in the car? Seems from the picture they may be pointed a bit too far back to clear the steering on the 240.

I have not, I haven't even ordered them yet. I know they won't fit without modification, but they seem like the easiest to get to work for me right now.

3" is ok, 3.5" would probably be the best.

3" will work fine. car the motor came from ran 2.75 out the back so 3" should be sufficient

Will it sound ok though? I know single exhaust isn't going to sound the greatest, but I don't want it to sound like ****.

Depens on what mufflers, resonators etc... you go with. 3' will be fine for mild modding however if you plan on going all out later go with a 3.5in, As for your header isssue, Id say buy a kit and do them yourself.

As it is now I would do a 2 1/2 to 3" exit y-pipe.

Yeah I saw them, but I don't see anywhere that states they are stainless so I assumed they aren't.

Burns Stainless should have whatever you want. They are a pricey though. If you are building the rest of the system then you might want to take a shot at making a y-pipe yourself. It's not too hard at all and assuming it turns out well it'll give you the confidence to get more adventurous with your fab skills later on.

spd exhaust may have it cheaper than burns, also. some things they are worse, others they are better.

its real easy to make a nice Y pipe, IMO. you should try it.

I got a dual 2.5 to 3 from summit. Part number was MPE-10778. Its not really optimized for flow in anyway but it is stainless and only $27.

those headers are gonna take a lot of work to make fit. i used hooker block huggers and made them work. im actually gonna be selling them in a few weeks if youre interested. only downside is they arent stainless but they sure as hell have a good coating on them because i havent had any issues with it and ive heated em up pretty good

That's what I was looking for. I hate navigating summit's site.

I've already ordered them. If I don't think I can make them fit reasonably easily I'll just return them. I have a set of 99 vette manifolds which are similar to the hooker block huggers but they won't work.

The hooker block huggers are like $209 from summit(i have those sitting here as well). I made sure I had a huge list of stuff to get from summit considering shipping there is only $11 no matter how much you order.
