The prev owner said he used 10w40 bc there would be alot of drivetrain noise with this cam. I've always stuck with 10w40 bc I trust his knowledge. But today when I got it changed. 2-3 different people questioned me on the weight, but I decided to stick with the 10w40 again. Heres the specs, can you guys give me some opinions? The car isnt driven hard at all, so is 10w40 just too thick? I appreciate the help.

I'd stay with the 10-40. Street driving in a hot climate will benefit from a little thicker oil. This platform is hard on bearings.

I use RP 10w40 in the vette and trans am, always have since I've owned them and never had a problem.

Mobil 1 0w-40 is the best all around oil I've ever seen, and I use it in both of my cars. 0/5/10w-30 is a great all around oil, and I think it will work anywhere. I've seen 0w-40 used in pretty harsh environments and very high output engines, and everything always comes back in one piece. Trust me, you won't feel the power difference.

You're on the right track with 10w-40.

You choose your oil by your climate and maybe power add application, not because your trying to quiet the valve train.

I ran 8 used oil analysis reports on my H/C LS1 on 5W-30, 10W-30 Mobil 1, 15W-40 and blended mixes. Lowest wear rates were with the 40W oils. Highest the 5W-30 and 10W-30. A 10W-30, 15W-40 mix was a close second in lowest wear.

Beautiful WS6 BTW!!!!! If it were mine I would run Mobil 1 Synthetic 10W-40 "High Milege". Don't let the name fool you as it will work fine in your application. It has a better additive package than the regular M1 and goes for $22 5qt jugs at Wallmart. I run it in mine. I also use Mobil 1 Syn TDT 5W-40 when I can find it.
