Vortec heads with slight port work, comp XE288HR, RPM intake and a 650 holley carb on a 2 bolt with flat top pistons of your choice.

He said TPI, not carb. You can copy my setup:

Trick Flow 195 heads, ported
Lunati 226/232 camshaft, .580" lift with 1.65 rockers
Specially ported Edelbrock TPI intake, flows 300+ cfm
Specially ported SLP siamesed runners
TPIS 52mm throttle body
Dyno Don 1 3/4" shorty headers
2 1/2" custom dual-cat y-pipe
Custom 3.5" exhaust with Magnaflow muffler
Custom prom programming by me
T56 transmission

You can substitute your own camshaft in that range, but the custom prom tuning is a must. You can also try the StealthRam if your state doesnt do smog checks, but keep it mind that intake deletes the EGR. The new AFR Elminator 195 heads are great, too.

I posted my dyno graph in this thread:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/small-block-big-block-chevy-specific/903103-cam-package-my-friend-s-tpi.html

My dyno numbers are new, but the ET is four years old from my old combo.

I dont have time and money for Tuned Port, i would jump straight to a LS1 before using TPI, not hating or dissing but thats just me.

Good luck with your build Ahizzy, hope you get the numbers you want.

I have to agree. After putting too much time and $ into my old 3rd gen TPI 383 I still didn't get what I wanted. How I got the car I have now. Wish I still had the thirdgen body but an LSX swap is definetly the way to go. You'll have the same $ in it in the long run I would think.

i have built many TPI engines 355-408,love them!
it is really hard to beat "MODERN TECHNOLOGY" and that is what the Ls series has above all other engine combinations.
i love 3rd gens the body lines are absolutely sexy, too bad mine got hit
NO OTHER F-BODY can corner the way a 3rd gen can then add the power and Ls base engine can provide along with the power to weight ratio the 3rd gen turns into what i would classify as a supercar..........

Put a bunch of juice into it or a procharger. After doing that and realizing how much money you have just spent to see such a small amount of power, then swap over to a more modern engine. I have owned 6 Camaros, 2 having the TPI setup. As much as I liked the simplicity of the engine, they do not and will not make as much power as easily as the newer engines. I swapped, ported, injected, blew, kicked, etc... Anything that I could do and still the cars ran like a stock LS1.

****, my carbed 383 with a mere 9.7 to 1 compression with 7 ported heads and a comp XE HR cam killed every LS1 i raced that was naturally aspirated, the two i raced with power adders whipped me. The new motor will be interesting

Now, the LT1....i curse it till my grave
