thats what i was going to guess, based off of your current location. Aviano is a really nice area/really nice base. fun little town. A lot of fun country roads to cruise around on.

right now my main concern is if they do emissions testing there. I talked to one guy who was taking his over there but never heard from him again after his car got there. Now i'm kinda worried now that i can't take it

Hi,
I've got my 2000 SS in Italy - but it's not registered here (it's only here for a short period) so can't personally help, but:
I would suggest you go to this forum xxxx://www.corvetteitalia.it/forum/ sign up (not too dificult, though it is in Italian,) and then send a PM to a member called Christian GM. He is lead service engineer (or similiar) at CAV Auto, which is a big GM dealer in Northern Italy - they sell and maintain both new and used corvettes, camaros, hummers etc. Christian speaks good english and should be able to help you out, or point you in the right direction. On the forum, their is another guy who runs an importing business - but I can't remember his name or user id, so you could also just post a question on their forum - most of the members read / speak english.
Another option would be to post a question on Pistonheads or even Corvette Forum - they have quite a few Italian members / military people.
Hope this helps a little,

I was investigating on shipping my TA to Italy when I lived close to Milano.
What a bunch of red tape, if you go through the gov. channels!
But I did run across a dude who would help me (naturally for a price) in Cremona . I'll search for his web site and phone number if you like?
They are very strict on Emission testing, However since you are military, I don't think you'll have a problem. As long as you keep your US tag on it, which I'm not sure if that's just for 1 year or for however long you are there.
Insurance is a KILLER over there! They go by Horsepower, not by groups of vehicles like we do.
If you do drive over there, watch out for the locals! Well, like here. LOL....
They use many Video cameras now to catch speeders !
WOW, did not see this post was over a yr old.... LOL...

I completely forgot that I posted in here... don't even remember what I was posting about.
Know that Italy is the land of bureaucracies. Nothing is as easy as you would expect it to be. There is also always a way to get around the little problems though.
